Chapter : Exploring the Eighth Underground Floor of the Dungeon (Part 2)
Alright!
This time, unlike before, we had plenty of people with us.
For safety’s sake, let’s wipe out the crocodile monsters here.
“Misuzu-san, to make sure we can safely get the treasure chest, I was thinking we should wipe out all the crocodile monsters. What do you think?”
“Yeah, got it!”
“Kuromitsu-chan! Attack with your breath!”
At Misuzu-san’s command, Kuromitsu rose into the air.
The treasure chest hadn’t been destroyed even by the spirits’ magic.
So it should be fine.
Kuromitsu took aim at the lake and let loose her breath.
Gooooo!
Just before the blast, Shiratama quickly threw up a barrier.
As expected of Shiratama! She really knows how to read the mood.
I swore then and there that I’d give her plenty of cuddles later.
Kuromitsu’s breath scorched the lake, evaporating the water.
The crocodile monsters basking on the island were wiped out, but the ones lurking underwater weren’t completely taken down.
The lakebed, now exposed, was sticky and clay-like.
If we stepped into it, our footing would be stolen—we’d be stuck.
In other words, this called for magic attacks only.
“Everyone! Attack the crocodile monsters with magic!”
At my words, the spirits and Bach’s group all began unleashing spells at once.
Bunin and the knights channeled mana into their swords and swung them.
Waves of magical slashes flew toward the crocodile monsters.
In just a few minutes, they were annihilated.
…Honestly, that was overkill.
But everyone looked so happy to be of use to Misuzu-san and me.
It would be rude to say anything that might dampen their spirits.
Among the loot, in addition to magic stones, crocodile leather had dropped.
“Amber, build us a bridge to the island!” I called.
Amber immediately conjured a bridge.
“And also, please gather up the magic stones!”
Amber cast earth magic, pulling all the scattered stones and leather into one pile.
“I will take charge of these. Misuzu-sama, please proceed to the treasure chest,” Bach said.
Misuzu-san and I crossed the bridge and stood before the chest.
I asked Anemone to check for traps.
Anemone nodded firmly.
“Misuzu-san, there are no traps. It’s safe to open.”
“Okay, I’ll do it!”
She opened the treasure chest.
Inside was… a pair of gloves, like the kind used in boxing.
Misuzu-san appraised them.
“These are C-rank gloves. If you channel mana into them, they boost attack power by 1.2 times. They also have automatic size adjustment and a cleaning enchantment.”
“Would it be alright if I gave these to my onii-chan?”
Of course.
Kenta-san was always looking out for us.
Besides, he had a martial-arts–based Job. These gloves would be a perfect match for him.
“Yeah, I agree! Let’s give them to Kenta-san as a present!”
At my words, Misuzu-san beamed with joy.
Once the gloves and magic stones were collected, I asked the spirits, “Is there anything else?”
They all nodded.
“Misuzu-san, looks like there’s more. Want to go check it out?”
“Mm-hm!”
Once again, we mounted Kuromitsu’s back.
She soared upward, following the spirits’ lead.
After a while, they halted in midair and pointed down.
Below was a small grassland patch in the middle of the savanna.
And it was crawling with huge oxen.
Massive horns protruded from their heads.
“Those are demonic cattle,” Bach explained.
“They are extremely aggressive. However, their meat is exceptionally delicious—a prized luxury ingredient.”
So that’s how it was.
If we got some drops, it would be lucky indeed.
But first, we had to deal with the demonic cattle.
We hovered above, waiting for Bunin and the knights to catch up.
Before long, they approached.
“Kuromitsu-chan! Attack with your breath!” Misuzu-san commanded.
Kuromitsu unleashed her breath from the sky.
Goooo!
The entire area was engulfed in flames.
When the fire subsided, countless magic stones lay scattered on the ground.
And there was meat, too—three massive slabs of it.
To think one breath could wipe out an entire herd of demonic cattle… her firepower really was insane!
With the monsters gone, Kuromitsu descended slowly to the ground.
Bach stored the meat and stones away.
Once we landed, the spirits pointed toward a rock protruding about a meter from the earth.
Bunin pressed against it, and the stone slid sideways.
So not only Bach and the others, but even the knights could see the spirits!
That was the first time I realized it.
“The knights can see the spirits too!” Misuzu-san said.
…Wait, what?
The way she said it—it was almost like Misuzu-san could see them herself.
“Hold on… Misuzu-san, you can see the spirits too?”
“Yup! Ever since I received my Job from the Goddess, I’ve been able to!”
So that was it.
This was the first time I learned that Misuzu-san could also see the spirits.
