Is Snow a Lord or Something?
Misuzu and I walk hand in hand.
Snow follows behind us.
As we walk for a while, we hear the sound of many footsteps running.
From both sides of the path ahead, a large group of black creatures comes running.
The black group turns out to be wolves.
Several packs merge together, forming a huge group charging toward us.
Once they reach both sides of the path, the wolves lie down.
Wolves lie on both sides of the road.
It feels like a feudal lord’s procession from a period drama.
Could Snow be a noble—some kind of dog… or wolf lord?
Since our objective isn’t to slay monsters, we’re lucky to get through without any unnecessary effort.
Looks like we can pass through the 4th and 5th basement floors without any combat.
When we reach the dead end of the 5th basement floor, there’s a stone door.
As we stand in front of it, the door slowly opens.
After we step inside, the door closes behind us.
The inside is a large open space, with a slightly elevated area at the back.
Light particles begin to gather on that raised platform.
As the light settles, a single large wolf appears.
It’s about twice the size of the wolves we saw earlier on the grassland.
The dungeon map had marked this as the floor boss for levels 1 to 5.
Defeating this boss is supposed to open the stone door at the far end, leading into the tunnel that connects to the 6th basement floor.
I remember the wind dagger I have at my waist.
If I swing it with the image of wind, it releases a blade of wind.
Should I give it a try? As I’m thinking that, Snow steps in front of us in his large form and lets out a loud “Awooo!”
Then... the floor boss wolf lies down and exposes its belly.
…What just happened? As I’m trying to process it, a mechanical female voice echoes in my head:
“The floor boss has lost its will to fight. It will be considered defeated.”
A treasure chest appears in front of the wolf, who is still lying on the floor, belly-up.
There doesn’t seem to be any traps.
But since the wolf is right in front of the chest, it would be risky for Misuzu to approach.
So, I decide to open the treasure chest myself.
Inside, there are two bottles of what look like nutritional energy drinks.
When I take them out, the chest dissolves into particles of light and disappears.
I put the two bottles away into my backpack.
The stone door at the very back of the boss room opens.
We go through the door.
As we proceed down the stairs, we come upon the stone room that the branch manager had mentioned.
We enter the room and place our hands on the transfer stone located at the center.
A mechanical female voice echoes in my head:
“Please select your destination.”
Since we’ve only touched the transfer stone on the first basement floor, it’s the only available destination.
I press the “B1” option shown on the transparent board in front of me.
In the next moment, as my vision distorts, I find myself back on the first basement floor.
The spirits riding on my shoulder and head seem to have transferred with me.
Are they treated like personal belongings?
As I’m thinking that, Misuzu transfers in as well.
The bag in her hand, along with Shiratama who is inside it, transfers with her too.
However… Snow, who played such a huge role this time, is nowhere to be seen!
Misuzu hurriedly summons Snow again.
“Snow, I’m so sorry!” she says as she starts petting him.
I join in and pet Snow too.
The two of us cuddle and fluff him up, trying to make up for it.
