After resting well yesterday, I came to the dungeon with Kudou.

Today’s prey is goblins.

While I was changing in the locker room after retrieving my weapons and gear from the locker, I overheard other explorers talking.

“Sunrise is amazing!”
“They climbed from F-rank to A-rank in just a few months.”
“They defeated two liches, said to be the strongest magic users.”

So there’s a party like that.

Then I’ll become A-rank in no time too!

Sunrise, huh? I’ll steal the spotlight by becoming A-rank faster than them!

I’ll become the fastest A-rank explorer and ask Nakamori-san, “Want to join my A-rank party?”

I’m getting excited!

Sunrise! I acknowledge you as my rival!

But I’m the one who’ll break your record!

Kudou and I arrived at the dungeon’s 4th basement floor.

As the map showed, it was a forested area.

Right after entering, the path was open, but beyond that, narrow trails spread out in all directions, just wide enough for one person.

I decided to lead.

Kudou followed behind me.

There were many forks in the path, so I took the slightly wider routes.

If the path is narrow, trees get in the way when I swing my axe.

The map said goblins usually act in groups of 3 to 5.

But we couldn’t find any goblins.

I looked around left and right as we went when I suddenly tripped and fell.

I instinctively dropped my axe and put both hands on the ground.

I was on all fours.

Then, sharp pain shot through my butt.

“Ouch!” I yelled.

Looking back, I saw a goblin’s club hit my butt.

Kudou hurried over, and the goblin dashed away.

Looking down, I saw a cord made from tree bark stretched across the path — I must have tripped on it.

Damn it!

How could I fall for a goblin trap…

And hit my precious butt with their club? Never allowed!

We continued walking slowly and cautiously, searching for goblins.

Still no sign.

Maybe Kudou is the problem?

Every step Kudou took, the metal on his armor scraped loudly.

Maybe the goblins hear it and run away?

I wondered what to do.

…Maybe Kudou should stay still, and I hide behind a tree to ambush.

If Kudou doesn’t move, goblins might approach to check him out.

Alright, no harm in trying.

I had Kudou stand at a corner of a narrow intersection and stay still without making noise.

I hid behind a large nearby tree and waited.

After a while, goblins appeared.

They were wary of Kudou.

One goblin slowly approached him.

I carefully crept out from behind the tree to the goblin.

Now’s the time!

I leapt out from the tree and swung my axe diagonally from top right to lower left.

The goblin ducked.

My axe missed the goblin and embedded itself into a tree.

I’d put all my strength into the swing, so the axe was stuck fast.

Then, sharp pain hit my butt again.

“Ouch!” Another goblin’s club struck my precious butt.

Damn it!

I called Kudou for help.

With his help, I finally pulled the axe free from the tree.

I looked around.

The goblins had fled.

Damn goblins! How dare they mess with me!

I will never forgive them!

Just you wait!!
