Chapter : From the Beast Egg…
The next morning, I went through my usual routine.
First, I threw open the windows and asked the wind spirits to blow the dust out of the room.
Then, I headed toward the back-mountain dungeon.
At the entrance, Amber pushed aside the massive boulder blocking the way so I could peek inside.
As expected, slimes were spawning again today.
But before letting the spirits handle them like usual, I decided to run an experiment with my skill.
I placed a small pebble on my palm and studied the nearest slime.
Its body was like a clear membrane, and inside, a magic stone drifted lazily.
Focusing on that magic stone, I pictured it swapping places with the pebble in my hand.
Then, I activated the spell.
“Change!”
In an instant, the magic stone and the pebble traded places.
“Yes! It worked!” I shouted in triumph.
The slime, now missing its core, dissolved into glittering motes of light.
The pebble I had held a moment ago clattered to the ground where the slime had been.
Perfect. Experiment successful.
I asked Amber to handle the rest of the slimes.
She raised her hand, and sharp earthen spikes erupted from the ground, skewering the creatures one after another.
Each one burst into shimmering particles.
Once the dungeon was clear, I had Amber seal the entrance again and made my way to the vegetable garden.
There, Lupinus had already finished watering the crops with her water magic.
With my morning routine complete, I hopped on my bike and rode to the Nakamori household.
When I arrived, I stepped inside and called out, “Good morning!”
…Strange. Usually, Misuzu greets me at the door.
Puzzled, I walked deeper into the house and found everyone gathered in the tatami room—Misuzu, her mother, Kenta, Snow, and Shiratama.
And… a black lizard?
“Look, Takuya!” Misuzu beamed, lifting the creature in both hands. “This is Kuromitsu-chan, the beast that just hatched from the egg!”
I stared at the reptilian form.
Yeah… definitely a lizard.
Not fluffy at all. A little disappointing, honestly.
Just as I thought that, Misuzu dropped a bombshell.
“Kuromitsu-chan is a Black Dragon!”
…Wait. Did she just say dragon?
“You’re kidding.”
“Nope! I used my Appraisal skill—no mistake about it!” she said with a confident smile.
“She’s still just a baby now, but apparently she’ll grow really big as an adult.”
“Which means… it’s gonna be hard to keep her at home. We were just talking about what to do.”
“Then how about the Sky Castle on the first floor of the dungeon?” I suggested.
“As long as she doesn’t harm the wind fairies, I doubt the high-ranking wind spirit will object.”
“Once she gets too big to stay here, we can move her there. And if you ever need her, you can just summon her.”
I asked Anemone to fly to the dungeon and consult the high wind spirit.
She zipped away at incredible speed.
…This is huge.
When I showed Snow and Shiratama, the branch manager was shocked.
This? This is on another level.
He definitely needs to know.
If I don’t report it, I’ll be in trouble.
While I was thinking that, Misuzu turned to me.
“On Saturday, I’m going to the Explorer’s Guild to register Kuromitsu. Come with me, okay?”
“Yeah, got it,” I replied.
So, we had a plan for Saturday.
As Misuzu and her mother began preparing breakfast, Anemone returned.
She nodded vigorously, looking proud of herself.
Sounds like the talk with the high-ranking wind spirit went well.
I let out a breath of relief.
