Chapter: Takuya and Misuzu Resume Exploring the Dungeon’s Sixth Floor (Part 2)
After successfully crossing the magma river, we ventured deeper into the cavern.
Partway through, we came across a trap—but thanks to my spirits, we spotted it in time.
“Step on this stone here, and the trap will trigger. Watch your footing,” I warned.
One of the staff members pulled a spray can from his backpack and marked the trap stone for safety.
We continued forward until the tunnel opened into a vast chamber.
At the far end stood an altar—
And on that altar sat two treasure chests.
“Takuya! Look, treasure!” Misuzu’s voice rang out, filled with excitement.
“Spirits, check for traps,” I instructed.
Anemone and the others zipped ahead toward the altar, scanning both chests.
It seemed neither one was trapped.
“Misuzu, it’s safe. You can open them,” I called.
“Alright, I’ll give it a try,” she said, walking up to the right-hand chest.
She slowly lifted the lid—
Inside was… a rolled-up sheet of paper.
It looked just like the one I’d found when I acquired my skill—about the size of a graduation certificate.
Misuzu carefully unrolled it, revealing a glowing magic circle etched across the parchment.
Her eyes widened in delight.
“I just obtained an appraisal skill!” she announced proudly.
The branch manager chuckled. “Misuzu, that’s a fine skill to have.”
She beamed, her smile radiating pure joy.
Then, the parchment dissolved into shimmering motes of light and vanished.
Next, she opened the left chest.
Inside was—an egg.
That shape… there was no doubt.
A Beast Egg.
The kind only a tamer could hatch.
Looks like Snow and Shiratama might be getting a new friend soon.
Another fluffball to cuddle? Yes, please…
The egg naturally went to Misuzu, while I asked the spirits to sweep the room for anything else.
They returned shortly, shaking their heads—nothing but the two chests.
I relayed the report to the branch manager.
“Understood,” he said, then signaled to his staff. “Wrap it up.”
The employees snapped photos, recorded videos, and then packed up their equipment at his command.
With that, we headed back toward the magma river.
Same as before, I used my Change skill to transfer everyone across, one by one.
We retraced our steps through the stone chamber, ascended the staircase, and emerged near the entrance.
As we stepped outside, the massive boulder slid back into place, sealing the way behind us.
“Coordinates logged?” the branch manager asked the staff member who’d been operating the drone.
“Yes, sir. All set,” came the reply.
I turned to the spirits. “Anything else nearby?”
They all shook their heads.
“Misuzu, looks like there’s nothing left on the sixth floor. Ready to head back?”
“Yep!” she replied without hesitation.
I informed the branch manager. “We’re heading out.”
Together, we returned to the transfer stone between the fifth and sixth floors, and warped straight to the first floor of the dungeon.
The branch manager’s team immediately began drafting the report for headquarters.
Meanwhile, Misuzu and I waited for Kenta and his party to return.
Up on the second-floor cafeteria, Misuzu ordered a fruit parfait, while I settled for chocolate.
The sweet reward after a long day hit the spot.
Before long, Kenta’s team returned from their own expedition.
They had just ranked up to C-rank—a well-earned achievement.
Misuzu, on the other hand, was absolutely glowing—clutching her brand-new Beast Egg like a precious treasure.
Tomorrow was the last day of the three-day weekend.
Misuzu wanted to stay home and focus on hatching her egg, so we agreed to take a break from exploring.
