Sōzoku Shita Sofu no Ie no Urayama ni Danjon ga Dekimashita - Chapter 116

Chapter : Takuya and Misuzu Resume Exploring the Dungeon’s Sixth Floor (Part 1)

The branch manager’s investigation wrapped up earlier than expected.

“Since we still have time,” I said, turning to Misuzu, “how about we keep exploring the sixth floor?”

“Got it! I’ll come with you!” she replied cheerfully, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

And so, we decided to continue our exploration.

I called out to the branch manager. “Sir! We’re going to keep exploring for a while!”

He gave me a grin. “Sounds good. Since we finished early, mind if we tag along?”

Misuzu looked at me with a mischievous smile. “That okay with you?”

“Sure, let’s go together,” I said without hesitation.

Before moving out, I spoke to my contracted spirits. “Lead the way!”

The wind spirit, Anemone, fluttered forward gracefully, taking the lead.

The terrain was as difficult as ever—massive trees blocked the path, forcing us to weave left and right instead of walking straight.

After a while, we came to a halt before a massive boulder.

Amber, the earth spirit, pointed to a small protrusion near the ground on the boulder’s surface.

“What is it, Takuya?” Misuzu asked, tilting her head curiously.

“I think… something’s hidden here,” I said, placing my right hand on the protruding spot and giving it a push.

Then—
GOGOGOGO!
The ground rumbled violently as the enormous boulder began to move.

When the rumbling stopped, a staircase leading deep underground had appeared where the boulder once stood.

“No way!” the branch manager shouted in astonishment.

One of his subordinates immediately tried to dash inside.

“Wait! We haven’t confirmed it’s safe yet!” I yelled.

“Yeah, don’t do anything stupid!” the branch manager barked, stopping the overeager staff member. “Takuya’s team found this—don’t act on your own!”

I nodded and called out to my spirits.

First Anemone, then Viola the dark spirit, and finally Lupinus the water spirit—all three flew into the opening to scout ahead.

The branch manager gave me a puzzled look. “You’re not going in right away?”

“I sent the spirits to check. Let’s wait for them to return,” I explained.

“I see. Fair enough,” he said, folding his arms.

After a short wait, the spirits returned and pointed toward the stairs, nodding enthusiastically.

“They’ve confirmed it’s clear,” I announced loud enough for everyone to hear. “We’re heading in!”

I took the lead, descending the staircase first.

The deeper we went, the hotter it got. Our gear automatically regulated body temperature, so we were okay—but the waves of hot air hitting our faces were still uncomfortable.

Finally, the stairs opened up into a vast stone chamber.

“Hot as hell down here…” the branch manager muttered. His staff echoed in agreement, wiping sweat from their brows.

The walls and floor were all solid stone, but what really caught my attention was ahead of us—
A river of magma flowed from right to left, glowing red and radiating intense heat. Beyond it lay a field of jagged, cooled lava rock. And past that, another cavern entrance beckoned.

“How are we supposed to cross this?” I murmured.

Then an idea struck me—
This is the perfect chance to test that new skill!

I picked up several pebbles from the ground, one for each person, and stored them in my pouch, leaving just one in my hand.

“Time to try something,” I said, tossing the pebble to Anemone. She whisked it away on a current of wind, carrying it across the molten river to the cavern entrance on the far side.

Once it landed, I activated my skill.

Change!

In an instant, my surroundings shifted. The blazing river was now behind me—I had swapped places with the pebble!

“Yes! It worked!”

Pulling out the rest of the pebbles, I spaced them evenly across the floor so no one would bump into each other upon arrival.

One by one, I activated the skill again—first Misuzu, then the branch manager, then each staff member.

When Misuzu appeared beside me, her face lit up with admiration.
“Takuya, that was amazing!”

Her praise made me blush a little.

The branch manager, still looking stunned, asked, “What the hell did you just do?”

“I used a skill called Change,” I explained. “It lets me swap places with a marked object.”

“Change…? Never heard of it…” he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.

Apparently, this was a pretty rare skill—even the branch manager had never encountered it before.
