Chapter : With My Comrades
Three days later, I received seven gold coins at Almine’s house.
“Sorry. The expenses increased, so the reward became smaller,”
Almine apologized, clasping her hands at her chest.
“We used the Flame Bombs, and all the healing potions were gone.”
“That’s okay. Thanks to that, we made it back alive.”
When I said that, Kinako spoke up beside me.
“If an alchemist is in the party, expenses naturally rise. But that also means greater safety.”
“Pirun has no complaints either!”
Pirun raised her right hand.
“With this much, I can eat lots of delicious food.”
“Thank you, everyone.”
Almine bowed her head to us.
“Well, it’s not exactly a trade-off, but it seems our party’s reputation has risen considerably.”
“Because we defeated Dagurudo?”
Almine nodded at my question.
“That’s the main reason. That demon was extremely strong.”
“I’m glad Sylphiel was there. Without her, I don’t think we could have defeated Dagurudo.”
Dagurudo’s image rose up in my mind.
He was truly a powerful demon. If we had made even one mistake, we all would have been killed.
“Well, we should thank Sylphiel. It seems the report the Moonlight Guild submitted also mentioned that we did our job well.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. Maybe because Yakumo was favored.”
“Favored?”
“If not, they wouldn’t have invited you to the Moonlight Guild.”
Almine smiled.
“But is it really okay? Joining the Moonlight Guild means more fame, more money, and you even get a room, right?”
“No, I like this party.”
I looked around at my comrades gathered around the table.
“So, unless I get kicked out, I’ll stay in this party forever.”
“There’s no way we’d kick out Yakumo. We begged him desperately to stay.”
Almine looked at me with a mix of exasperation and then a faint smile.
“…Thank you, Yakumo. We’re really lucky to have you in the party.”
“We should thank the Holy Sword Guild after all,”
Kinako spoke.
“Because they expelled Yakumo, he became one of us.”
“That’s true.”
Almine agreed with Kinako’s words.
“By the way, the Holy Sword Guild seems to be having a hard time.”
“Huh? Hard time?”
I asked Almine.
“Twenty-eight members died in this mission and they retreated early. Their reputation seems to have dropped a lot.”
“But Dagurudo was an extremely strong demon. And there were over five hundred enhanced skeleton soldiers.”
“Still, the Moonlight Guild defeated Dagurudo and rescued the investigation team. Plus, our little side mission was successful too. Requests to the Holy Sword Guild might decrease because their ability is now doubted.”
Almine tilted her head to the right and scratched it.
“Well, enough about that. Shall we talk about what’s next over dinner?”
“I want meat—lots of meat!”
Pirun’s eyes sparkled.
“The Moon Jewel Tavern on West Street just got a shipment of Golden Beef. If you don’t eat it, you’re wasting your life.”
“Then let’s go there. Kinako, sounds good?”
“No problem. Drinking with tasty meat is not bad.”
Kinako answered.
“Yakumo, you’re good with that?”
“Yeah. Of course.”
I smiled softly.
Eating with comrades really is nice. Back in the Holy Sword Guild, I was looked down on and never even invited to meals.
When we left Almine’s house, night had already fallen.
A giant moon rose in the eastern sky. Its gentle light illuminated the backs of my comrades walking ahead.
I stopped and gazed at their backs.
I’m happy to be part of this party. They are precious comrades I can trust and who accept me.
My unique skill, [Maximum Mana], has recovered, and I have grown stronger.
But this world is full of danger. There are demons stronger than Dagurudo, and disaster-class monsters that could destroy towns.
And then there are the Six Demon Stars and the Demon King…
To fight such enemies, I have to become even stronger!
“Yakumo!”
Pirun called my name from the crossroads several dozen meters ahead.
“Hurry! If the Golden Beef runs out, it’ll be a disaster!”
“Ah, sorry!”
I apologized and ran down the moonlit path.
