The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills - Chapter 54

Epilogue Part 1

In a room inside the Seiken Guild’s mansion, Kilsas sat at a desk, flanked by his executive Elena and Gardi.

Kilsas placed a yellowish-white report on the table.

“I’ve read the report. That was a failure, Gardi.”

“N-no, wait!” Gardi’s voice trembled faintly.

“As it says here, Daglud’s strength was close to that of the Six Demon Stars. And there were over a hundred enhanced skeleton soldiers. It’s a miracle that Adol and I even came back alive.”

“Close to the Six Demon Stars, huh…” Kilsas tapped the desk lightly with his index finger.

“If the demon was that strong, why was the Moonlight Guild able to defeat it?”

“That’s because… Shirfeel of the Twelve Heroes was there.”

“The Silver Moon’s Shirfeel. Yeah, she could probably defeat a strong demon like that.”

“A-also, there was Kinako, the demon slayer. They teamed up to kill Daglud.”

“Then why didn’t you cooperate?”

Kilsas fixed Gardi with a sharp gaze.

“If you had worked with Shirfeel, you could have defeated the demon easily. Then twenty-eight of your guild members wouldn’t have died.”

“That’s…”

Gardi’s cheeks twitched.

“You’re an A-rank adventurer with three combat skills. There’s no doubt about your fighting ability. But as a leader who commands a party, you leave much to be desired.”

“What do you mean, ‘leave much to be desired’?”

“I mean, if I were you, I’d have teamed up with the Moonlight Guild and joined the fight when Shirfeel was battling Daglud. That way, the risk is reduced and the rewards increased. Especially with Kinako there.”

Kilsas continued in a calm tone.

“If you and Kinako had helped Shirfeel kill Daglud, the Seiken Guild’s reputation would have risen.”

“But we never had a chance to meet the Moonlight Guild. The only party we encountered was Kinako’s.”

“In that case, you could have used that party. Kinako’s party must be fairly strong.”

“No, that party was led by an arrogant female alchemist… and, uh, there was also a man who was kicked out of the guild.”

“A man who was kicked out?”

“Yeah. His name was Yakumo, I think.”

Kilsas’s brow twitched.

“Yakumo is in Kinako’s party?”

“Y-yeah. That’s why I thought there was no point in cooperating with them. Since you exiled that guy, it seemed pointless.”

“That has nothing to do with it. Even if Yakumo is a liability, with Kinako there, the party’s overall level is above average.”

“B-but…”

“Enough excuses. Your failure damaged the Seiken Guild’s credibility. You can’t deny that, right?”

“Guh…”

Gardi couldn’t respond and shook his shoulders.

“Kilsas…”

Kilsas stood up from his chair.

“I’m cutting your salary in half for one year. No objections?”

“Half?!”

Gardi’s eyes widened.

“Don’t mess with me! You seriously intend to cut it that much?!”

“I think it’s reasonable. You lost twenty-eight guild members under your command.”

“Grr… damn!”

Gardi clicked his tongue and stormed out of the room.
