Chapter : On the Surface
“Thank you very much, Lady Sylphiel.”
Frank, an Adventurer Guild staff member, bowed his head to Sylphiel, who stood next to me.
“Thanks to Lady Sylphiel defeating the demons, we were able to rescue the investigation team.”
“I didn’t defeat the demons by myself,”
Sylphiel pointed at me and Kinako.
“I defeated them together with these two.”
“Oh, I see.”
Frank shifted his gaze toward Kinako.
“As expected of Kinako, the demon slayer. Also…”
“Yakumo.”
Sylphiel said my name aloud.
“This kid is a newcomer to the Moonlight Guild.”
“Huh? The Moonlight Guild?”
I was surprised.
“Sylphiel, I’m not a member of the Moonlight Guild.”
“You will be joining soon, right?”
Sylphiel’s twin tails swayed as she stepped closer to me.
“You’re rank E, but I’ll pay you the same salary as an A-rank member because you have that kind of ability. And I’ll give you a room too.”
“A r-room?”
“Yes. The Moonlight Guild has a mansion in the center of Tansa town. The room next to mine is vacant, and you can use it.”
“N-no. I’m already in Almine’s party.”
I raised both hands up to my chest and shook my head.
“I can’t join the Moonlight Guild.”
“You can just leave your current party. The conditions here are better.”
“That’s not happening!”
Almine grabbed my left arm.
“Yakumo, you’re an important comrade. I won’t let you go.”
“Exactly!”
This time, Pirun grabbed my right arm.
“Yakumo promised to defeat the Demon King with me and become a hero.”
“No, I never made that promise.”
I glared at Pirun.
“Anyway, I’m not joining the Moonlight Guild.”
“Huh? Why not?”
Sylphiel glared at me.
“What don’t you like about the Moonlight Guild? I, one of the Twelve Heroes, am the leader.”
“It’s not that I dislike it. I just want to stay with my current party.”
I glanced alternately at Almine and Pirun, who were holding my arms.
“Almine invited me to her party after I was expelled from the Holy Sword Guild, so I owe her. Kinako has taught me a lot about fighting. And Pirun…”
I fell silent for a few seconds.
“Why are you quiet?”
Pirun puffed out her cheeks.
“Say what’s great about me too!”
“P-Pirun has a strong sense of justice and… great fashion sense, I guess.”
“You forgot ‘cute.’ Don’t leave that out!”
“Right… I did. Ha-ha.”
I laughed awkwardly and returned my gaze to Sylphiel.
“So, I can’t join the Moonlight Guild.”
“Hmph. You refuse an invitation from one of the Twelve Heroes?”
Sylphiel’s silver eyebrows lifted sharply.
“You’ve got some nerve.”
“Sorry. If I were solo, I’d gladly join. I want to see your overwhelming strength up close.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
“Yes. Fighting alongside you has taught me a lot.”
“...Hmm.”
Sylphiel stepped forward and brought her well-shaped face close to mine.
“Well, fine. Your room will stay vacant, so if you ever get tired of your current party, just contact me anytime.”
With that, Sylphiel lightly poked my chest with her index finger.
