Sōzoku Shita Sofu no Ie no Urayama ni Danjon ga Dekimashita - Chapter 36

Nakamori-san’s First Dungeon – Part 1

After leaving the branch manager’s office, we headed toward the dungeon entrance.

I took the lead, followed by Nakamori-san.

And behind her, Snow trotted along.

At the dungeon gate, we presented our Explorer Cards and were allowed inside.

“Are you two going in dressed like that?”
The gate staff asked us.

Yup.

It’s always the same conversation.

“Yes. We’re only going to the first floor—the grasslands,” I replied.

“I see. You never know what’ll happen in a dungeon, so be careful out there!”

The staff member opened the gate for us.

We passed through and stepped into the first floor’s grasslands.

Leaving the path, we headed toward a small hill on the right.

Snow ran ahead, bounding about happily.
She looked thrilled to be able to stretch her legs in such a wide space.

We arrived at our usual spot past the hill.

Well, I say “usual,” but this was only the second time we’d been here…

“Nakamori-san, when you got your JOB, did you learn summoning magic?”
I asked, and she nodded.

“First, let’s test if you can actually summon. Unlike my spirits, you can’t bring your beast familiar to school with you, so if you can’t summon it when needed, that could be a problem. Let’s practice. Especially with how dangerous things have been lately.”

“Got it,” Nakamori-san said, then gave Snow the command to move away a little.

She raised her hand and chanted,
“Summon.”

A magic circle appeared beneath Snow, pulling her inside.

Then, another magic circle formed near Nakamori-san, and Snow leapt out from it, rushing over and rubbing herself against Nakamori-san affectionately.

Looks like the experiment was a success!

Since my spirits are always with me, I’ve never had to summon them before either.

Even the spirits looked fascinated, watching closely.

Next, we tested Shiratama.

We started by having her form a barrier.

The branch manager had said she was a defense specialist, but hadn’t mentioned anything about offensive ability.

A slime approached the barrier Shiratama created, but was bounced back.

“Can we try sandwiching the slime between two barriers?” I suggested.

Nakamori-san gave Shiratama the order.

A second barrier appeared, and the two barriers moved together—squashing the slime between them and turning it into a magic stone.

Another successful test!

With our experiments finished, we spread out a leisure sheet and sat down to drink tea from our flasks.

The spirits and Snow went off to hunt slimes.

Even little Viola, our lowest-tier spirit, was extra motivated today.

Maybe she was feeling a bit competitive after Anemone and Freesia evolved into mid-tier spirits?

When a slime slipped into the shadows of a tree, a blade of shadow rose from beneath and struck it down.

Usually, one of the three spirits is always by my side to protect me.

But today, since Shiratama—our defense specialist—is here, they’re free to hunt farther away.

Feeling hungry, we decided to have lunch.

Nakamori-san’s mom had made us sandwiches.

We set them out on the leisure sheet, along with our tea.

Just the two of us, eating together like this…

It almost felt like we were a couple.

Yeah.

Today again, Nakamori-san looked beautiful.

As we relaxed together, I sensed something through Anemone.

Someone was coming.

When people move, the wind stirs.

Anemone is very sensitive to the movement of wind.

A few minutes later, Snow turned toward the road.

Being a dog—probably—she also seemed sensitive to sound and presence.

“What’s this? A picnic spot or something?”

Kenta-san laughed.

I had told him earlier that we’d be slime hunting here today, so he’d come to pick us up.

We packed our things, stored the magic stones in my backpack, and walked back toward the dungeon exit with Kenta-san’s party.
