Golden Week (Part 6)

Kentaro-san, despite his serious injury, just laughed it off, saying he was fine now that he’d been healed.

Then the beautiful girl looked at me.

"Shiraishi-kun? What are you doing here?"

"Huh, you two know each other?" Kentaro-san asked.

We explained that we were classmates.

Turns out, Kentaro-san and his party were all third-years from the same high school.

I told them a bit about myself.

That my father had passed away.
That I’d inherited my grandfather’s house and was now living alone.
That a dungeon had appeared behind my house, and I came today to sell the slime magic stones I collected.
That I earned more than expected, so I was thinking of sending some money back home.

Then Kentaro-san said:

"Sounds just like us. Our dad passed away too, and our mom raised us by working hard. I became an explorer to help with the family finances—and to chase my dream."

"Alright, Shiraishi. You’re living alone, right? You probably haven’t been eating properly. Come have dinner at our place tonight!"

When Kentaro-san said that, his mother—who had been standing behind him—added:

"That’s a great idea. Shiraishi-kun, you should come."

"Mom, let’s stop by the supermarket on the way back and pick up some groceries!"

The conversation just kept moving forward.

Apparently, the decision was already made: I would be having dinner at the Nakamori house.

Kentaro-san had started attending driving school before his birthday, and as soon as he turned the legal age, he got his license and bought a used car.

His party members all used his car to get to the dungeon.

So today, Kentaro-san would drive his party members home, while Nakamori-san and I would go back in her mother’s small car.

When I mentioned that I had left my bicycle at the train station, it was decided that Nakamori-san and I would get out at the station, walk to her house from there, and her mother would head to the supermarket to shop before coming home.

And so, I ended up enjoying a delicious sukiyaki meal at the Nakamori household—for the first time in a long while.
