My seat was near the front of the classroom.
Hers was all the way in the back.

So I’d turn around sometimes—pretending to chat with the person behind me—just to sneak a glance at her.

She was always talking with Yamada.
If I remember right, those two have been childhood friends forever.

But lately… there's someone else in the picture.
Someone completely unnecessary.

Shiraishi.

He just happened to be seated next to Nakamori. That’s all. Pure coincidence.
And yet, there he is, grinning and laughing with her like they’ve known each other forever.

It’s infuriating.

I heard he moved here from another prefecture.
He doesn't know anyone, and Nakamori—kind as she is—must’ve just felt sorry for the guy and started talking to him.
That's all there is to it.

Don’t get the wrong idea, Shiraishi.

To remind everyone of the difference between us, I make sure to walk over to Nakamori and Yamada now and then.
Strike up a conversation. Be casual. Confident.
Let her—and him—see that I belong there.

Don’t get too comfortable.

Nakamori isn’t just any girl.

She’s my future wife.
