Sōzoku Shita Sofu no Ie no Urayama ni Danjon ga Dekimashita - Chapter 12

 Explorer’s Guild – Part 2

I picked up my phone and dialed the number listed on the Explorer’s Guild website for their local branch.

“Hello, this is the Explorer’s Guild.”

A young woman’s voice answered.

“Uh, hi… A dungeon has appeared behind my house, in the mountain...”

“Understood. Thank you for reporting it. First, may I have your name, address, and contact information?”

I answered her questions one by one.

“Next, we’d like to send someone to inspect the site. Could you let us know a date and time that works for you?”

“Anytime this week is fine.”

“Let me check the schedule for our field agent. Please hold for a moment... Thank you for waiting. The earliest available slot is this evening—would that be convenient for you?”

“Sure, I’ll be here this evening.”

“Understood. Our staff will visit later today, then. If anything comes up in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to call. Thank you for contacting the Explorer’s Guild.”

With that, I ended the call.

“Good afternoon—we’re from the Explorer’s Guild.”

A young woman and an older man showed up at my front door.

“Ah, welcome! I’ve been expecting you.”

I greeted them at the entrance.

“If it’s alright with you, may we go ahead and inspect the dungeon?”

“Of course. I’ll take you there now.”

I stepped outside with the Guild staff and guided them toward the back mountain.

Above us, my three elemental spirits were flying around in circles, chasing each other playfully.

They looked like they were having a great time.

It seemed the spirits had no interest in the people from the Explorer’s Guild—and vice versa. The Guild staff didn’t even notice them.

Apparently, ordinary people couldn’t see spirits.

Since they hadn’t asked about them, I figured it was best to just ignore the topic altogether. Explaining something people can’t see is just… exhausting.

We arrived at the mountain, and they immediately peeked into the dungeon from the entrance.

“I see… That must be the backmost chamber. It’s fairly close. We’ve been told the only monsters present are slimes—can you confirm that?”

“Yes. It’s just slimes. There’s one boss and ten regular ones. Eleven in total.”

“Got it. We’ll begin mana level measurement now.”

The older Guild officer said this as he flipped the switch on what looked like a handheld vacuum cleaner.

“That thing can measure it?”

“Yep. This device measures mana concentration. Dungeon rank is determined based on total mana. It was developed a few years ago by an American company and is now the global standard for dungeon classification.”

“Huh, I didn’t know that.”

“Alright, here are the results. This dungeon is classified as Rank F. If you plan to handle the monsters yourself, you’ll need to register with the Explorer’s Guild. Anyone over the age of fifteen can register. If you don’t want to clear the dungeon yourself, you can request an explorer through the Guild to do it for you. However—if you leave it alone and monsters escape and cause harm to others, the dungeon’s owner will be held liable.”

“Uh… So, I’m considered the owner of this dungeon?”

“Yes, that’s correct. Since it’s on your property, you’re the official owner. If it were a higher-rank dungeon, the Guild might offer to purchase it or take over management, but with an F-rank, that’s not feasible. It simply wouldn’t be profitable.”

“Alright… Then I’ll register with the Explorer’s Guild.”

And just like that, I became a registered explorer.
