Sōzoku Shita Sofu no Ie no Urayama ni Danjon ga Dekimashita - Chapter 10

Slime Hunt with the Spirits

This morning, just like yesterday, I came to the dungeon behind the mountain first thing after waking up.

The three spirits were holding hands and cheerfully spinning in circles above my head.

I could feel their joyful emotions flowing into me.

I peered into the dungeon from its entrance.

Even though I cleared it out yesterday, there were already ten slimes between the entrance and the raised area inside, with one more sitting atop the ledge.

“They’ve respawned!”

So there is a barrier near the entrance, huh?

Even if the slimes try to escape outside, they’re repelled by some kind of invisible wall. They don’t seem able to get out.

I wonder—can my spirits pass through that barrier?

If they can’t, I’d have to rely on dry ice again like I did yesterday.

Well, since I’ve done this once before, I wasn’t nearly as nervous as yesterday.

I stepped into the dungeon.

The spirits followed right behind me.

Yes! They made it in without issue!

Next, it was time to test their abilities.

I sent Anemone the mental image of slicing the slime with a blade of wind. She responded immediately, firing a wind blade that took out a slime in one clean shot.

Wait a sec. Yesterday, when I used dry ice, the slimes’ outer layer burst and the inside spilled out like a puddle of goo. But this time, the slime just scattered into particles of light and vanished.

All that was left behind was a tiny, pea-sized blue stone.

Is this the difference between physical and magical attacks?

Well, as long as they’re defeated, I don’t really care.

It’s not like anyone’s going to complain anyway.

Next up was Freesia.

Lasers are light-based, right?

I sent Freesia the image of firing a laser beam.

She responded by blasting one, instantly turning the slime into glowing particles, leaving only the magic stone on the ground.

Alright. Another success!

Now for Viola.

But no matter how many mental images I sent—like launching shadow blades or firing off darts made of darkness—she just kept shaking her head, as if to say it was impossible.

Then I realized: slimes are always touching the ground, so of course they cast shadows.

I sent her the image of forming a spear out of that shadow and thrusting it upward.

Suddenly, from within the shadow, a long spike—or maybe it was more like a fang—shot out and skewered the slime in one blow.

Perfect hit. The slime was down!

I thanked all three of them with a heartfelt “Thank you.”

In response, the three spirits once again held hands and joyfully spun above my head.

When I asked them to take care of the remaining slimes, they cleared them all out in no time.

Then, Anemone used wind magic to float the magic stones into the air and gently deliver them to me.

Using the spirits’ power, the slime hunt experiment had been a total success.
