Alf leaned against the counter and called out casually.
“Yo, the Guild Master in? Got a report to file—plus something about Gomena’s outskirts. Might need a favor too.”
The receptionist looked up and nodded briskly.
“Right away, Alf-san. Please wait a moment.”
She glanced over the form Alf handed in, then vanished into the back. A few minutes later, she returned—with a towering, bald man following behind her. His sharp blue eyes scanned the guild like a hawk. Even taller than Alf, and built like a mountain.
He stopped in front of Alf. The two men stared each other down, faces stone-cold.
The receptionist tensed. Adventurers nearby went quiet.
Then—bam!—the two men bumped fists and cracked wide grins.
“Alf. You only come to me when something's a pain in the ass. What now?”
“Don’t give me that, ossan Garf. We ran into goblins—twice. Both spots were less than half a day’s ride from town. Anyone below E-rank’s in danger. Thought you should know.”
“...Seriously?”
“Do I look like I joke about this? First pack had twelve, second had eight. The attacks were about two and a half hours apart by carriage. Feels like there's a nest between 'em. Better investigate fast.”
“Damn. Yeah, got it. Good call reporting it. That all?”
“One more thing. Got a newbie to register.”
Alf stepped aside as Mario nudged Tenma forward. Garf's gaze snapped toward him.
“This kid?”
“Yep. Name’s Tenma. Took down ten goblins by himself. And yeah—looking like that.”
A few adventurers nearby turned to look. Garf raised a brow, eyeing Tenma up and down.
“Ten goblins. Solo. That true? You know filing a false report costs you, right?”
“You think I’d lie to your face? The whole Orochi crew saw it.”
Garf grunted, then nodded.
“Tenma, was it? Follow me.”
Without another word, Garf turned and walked down a hallway. Tenma glanced back. Alf gave a small nod. He followed.
Eventually, they stopped in front of a door. Garf opened it.
“In you go.”
Tenma stepped in—and found an old man in robes seated calmly inside. His eyes were sharp, but not unfriendly.
“Mile,” Garf said. “Got a new adventurer here. Claims he solo’d ten goblins. Run a Lie Detection on him.”
“Understood.”
The old man stood, raised a hand, and chanted in a flat tone.
“I speak only truth. Lies, I shall reveal—Lie Detection.”
A subtle pressure swept over Tenma. It felt like a warm breeze brushing his skin.
“My name is Tenma.”
“You really took down ten goblins, alone?”
“Yes.”
“Then let me see what’s hidden—reveal the unseen, Appraisal.”
Another breeze. Tenma felt the magic brush over him—and stayed calm. Appraisal Obfuscation was working just fine.
Mile’s eyes widened slightly.
“Well, now. A mage, huh? Dual attributes—water and... non-elemental? That’s a rare combo. Never seen that before. Oh, and some basic life magic too.”
“Looks solid?” Garf asked.
“Yeah. No lies in what he said.”
Garf turned to Tenma.
“Alright. You’re cleared. We'll register you at F-rank. Follow me.”
The three of them moved to the next room.
At the center stood a massive floating crystal. Beside it was a desk with a control panel and a glowing orb.
