~Fortress City Gomera~
A fortress city second only in size to the regional capital, Baltz, within the Baltsa territory. Both in name and reality, it was the second most important city in the region. Within the eastern part of the kingdom, excluding the royal capital, it ranked among the top five largest cities.
When Tenma entered Gomena, he was greeted by a medieval European-style streetscape—stone buildings, each uniquely colored in their walls and roofs. Pastel hues lined the stone-paved roads, and the sky above was dyed in shades of crimson. The charming atmosphere made Tenma feel as if he had wandered into the pages of a fairy tale.
As the carriage rolled along the main road stretching from the city gate, Tenma noticed several shops with signs hanging out front:
"Green Breeze Inn," "Rondo Shoemaker," "Arts Armory."
Farther down the boulevard stood a particularly grand building, adorned with a decorative clock.
“They even have clocks,” Tenma murmured in relief.
In a world where the concept of time might have been vague or non-existent, this small familiarity was comforting. Upon closer inspection, the clock’s face resembled those on Earth, and its hands pointed to 5:40.
As Tenma was curiously scanning his surroundings, the carriage turned right, heading behind a blue-walled mansion.
“We’ve arrived,” said Mario, hopping down from the driver’s seat and motioning for Tenma to do the same.
Once everyone had disembarked, a beautifully dressed woman emerged from the mansion, flanked by servants. Marnie was receiving a signature from Alf on a slip of paper.
“Welcome home, Master,” the woman greeted Marnie warmly.
“I’m back, Aria. This trip was a rough one. We made it back in one piece thanks to Orochi—and to Tenma-kun.”
“Alf, Tenma-kun, thank you.”
“Don’t mention it, Marnie. We were just doin’ our job,” Alf replied with a shrug.
“I only hitched a ride on the carriage. There's no need to thank me,” Tenma added modestly.
“It’s already late,” Marnie said. “Come by the shop again tomorrow. I’ll make sure to thank you properly.
Sebas, unload the luggage, will you? Well then—see you tomorrow.”
With that, Marnie disappeared into the mansion alongside Aria.
“Alright, let’s move out. Come on, Tenma.”
Tenma followed Alf out of the mansion. They returned to the main boulevard and headed toward the large building with the decorative clock. Leaf and Mario followed quietly behind him.
When they arrived, Alf threw open the double doors with a bang.
“Master, you in here?!”
His loud, commanding voice rang through the hall, turning every head in the room. Eyes full of curiosity, irritation, and even hostility fell on them—but Alf paid no mind and strode forward with unwavering confidence.
Tenma watched him in awe. Wasn’t it Alf who said not to draw attention? he thought, puzzled. If he’s standing out like this, isn’t it only natural that I would too?
Sensing Tenma’s discomfort, Mario leaned closer.
“Alf’s a handful, huh? This here’s the Adventurer’s Guild. From here, Alf and I can handle things.
Leaf-san, could you arrange our lodgings?”
Without a word, Leaf turned on her heel and quietly exited the guild.
Tenma, left behind with Mario, hurried after Alf, who was now heading toward the counter at the back of the guild hall.
