“Go ahead and touch it,” Garf instructed, motioning to Tenma.

Tenma did as he was told.

“Don’t move,” Garf added.

As Tenma stood still, watching Garf, Mile stepped in to take over. He placed his hand on the orb and began murmuring something under his breath. When he finished, Garf switched back in, touched the orb again, and picked up the card from the desk.

“Alright, you’re good,” Garf said.

Tenma removed his hand from the crystal. Garf held out the card to him.

“This is your guild card. It’s linked to your mana, so don’t lose it. If you do, it costs money to replace. Check the back too.”

“High hopes, huh…” Tenma muttered to himself, not quite sure how to take that. It didn’t feel real. But more than anything—he was just happy to have an actual form of ID now.

As they reentered the hall, Alf and Mario immediately approached him.

“Did the registration go alright?” they asked in unison.

“Yes,” Tenma replied.

“Nice!” Alf slapped him hard on the back, while Mario held out his hand for a shake.

Garf stepped up beside him, grabbed Tenma’s hand, and raised it high.

“Everyone! We’ve got a brand-new adventurer joining us in Gomena! His name’s Tenma! Rank F! Show him some love!”

“YEAH!!”
A cheer went up through the guild.

Tenma suddenly felt the weight of all those eyes on him. Most of the stares were friendly—curious, impressed. But mixed in were a few sharp, jealous looks.

After the announcement, everyone handed in their monster proof and collected their rewards from the guild. Tenma got ten copper coins for the ten goblins he’d taken out. He gave two back to Alf and stored the rest using his Item Box.
