Chapter : Exploring the Eighth Underground Floor of the Dungeon (Part 4)
After returning to the wide chamber where Kuromitsu waited, we decided to take the middle passage next.
We advanced down the tunnel.
Partway through, the ground shifted from stone to sand, making it difficult to walk.
Worse, once the ground became sand, the passage itself widened.
And then—our path was blocked by countless antlion pits.
What to do?
As I was pondering, Amber activated earth magic.
From within the pits, the monsters hidden in the sand were forced up to the surface.
The knights instantly launched magical slashes from their swords, and the antlion monsters dissolved into motes of light.
Amber then gathered the magic stones into one place.
Bach picked them up and stored them.
Amber cast another spell, solidifying the sand into a straight, firm path.
“Thanks, Amber!”
Thanks to her, walking became much easier.
We pressed onward.
Before long, we reached another wide chamber.
We halted in front of a slightly elevated circular platform.
The second boss fight.
“I’d like to test out the Holy Sword, Fragarach. Is that okay?” I asked.
The knights stepped back behind me.
Looks like that’s a yes.
I also had Misuzu-san step back, then drew the holy sword from my storage pouch.
As I climbed onto the raised platform, particles of light began to gather.
When the glow faded, monsters appeared.
Ant monsters—six in total.
I drew the holy sword from its sheath and poured magic into it.
Swinging it sideways, a blade of wind shot forth.
In a single strike, all six ant monsters were cut down.
So powerful…
“Takaya-san! That’s amazing!”
Misuzu-san praised me, and it made me happy.
This time, two bottles dropped.
They looked like drink vials.
The rest turned into magic stones.
What could be inside those bottles?
As I wondered, Bach picked them up and inspected them.
He seemed to be appraising them.
“This is a mana amplification potion,” he said.
“What’s that?”
“Drinking one increases total mana capacity by 3%.”
“Then let’s give these to Mizuho-chan too!” Misuzu-san said.
The bow we intended to give Mizuho required mana to generate arrows.
If she ran out of mana, she wouldn’t be able to attack.
It was best to boost her mana, even a little.
“Got it. Let’s give them to Mizuho,” I agreed.
Bach stored both bottles away in subspace.
Not long after, particles of light began gathering again.
When they faded, a treasure chest appeared.
Bach approached it.
“Misuzu-sama, it seems to be trap-free.”
At his words, Misuzu-san’s face lit up with a radiant smile.
Nothing pleased me more than seeing her so happy.
She walked up to the chest.
I moved to stand at her side as she opened it.
Inside was a scroll.
Misuzu-san lifted it out, and the chest dissolved into light.
She appraised the scroll.
“This is a Barrier skill!”
“Let’s give this to Mizuho-chan too!” she said brightly.
“Got it,” I replied.
If Mizuho combined this skill with Danger Sense, she could raise a barrier whenever she sensed peril.
That would greatly reduce the risk of her getting hurt, even if struck mid-battle.
It really felt like today’s dungeon run was all for Mizuho’s sake.
But she was my little sister. If anything happened to her, I’d be in serious trouble. So in the end, this was fine.
After Misuzu-san stored the scroll, Bach once again opened a transfer gate.
We passed through and returned to the wide chamber where Kuromitsu was waiting.
