Chapter : Hero!?
Once again, Lupinus called down a rain shower with her water magic.
Slowly, Kuromitsu descended, beating his wings until he touched down on the sandy ground.
I floated down as well and gave Amber her orders.
With her earth magic, Amber gathered up all the items that had spilled from the giant worm into a single place.
Then I had her unearth the weapons and armor we had buried yesterday and bring them together.
Meanwhile, the branch manager and his team collected the adventurers’ cards in one spot.
From their backpacks, they took out flowers, bottles of water, and even sake.
They placed everything before the adventurers’ cards and lit incense.
Together, all of us pressed our hands together in prayer.
It turned out the backpacks the branch manager’s group carried were a type of item box—a large-scale version of the storage pouches Misuzu and I used.
Our pouches had strict weight limits, but their backpacks weren’t constrained by weight—only volume. Apparently, a single one of those backpacks could hold as much as a six-tatami room.
They stored the adventurers’ cards, along with weapons and armor, neatly by category inside.
When I looked toward Misuzu, her gaze was fixed on something else—the treasure chest.
I asked Anemone to check it for traps.
She circled the chest, examining it carefully, then gave a firm nod.
“No traps. It’s safe to open,” I told Misuzu. Her face lit up with a smile.
But just as she was about to reach for the chest, the branch manager raised a hand. “Wait! I’d like to be present for this.”
Misuzu froze, hand still hovering in midair. She was practically trembling with the urge to open it, but she waited obediently.
A little while later, once the branch manager’s team had finished recovering the remains, they returned and nodded.
“Go ahead, Misuzu. You can open it now.”
Her bright smile returned.
…Yeah. Misuzu really is adorable.
Since she had the Appraisal skill, we didn’t need to spend money on professional appraisers, which was an enormous help.
Misuzu opened the right-hand chest first.
Inside was a single scroll.
She picked it up, unrolled it slightly, and appraised it.
When she turned back to me, her eyes sparkled.
“Takaya-san, you should use this!” She handed me the scroll without hesitation.
“Got it.” I nodded and unfurled it fully.
A glowing magic circle spread out across the parchment.
And then—
《Hero Job acquired.》
《Upon acquiring the Hero Job, various skills have been granted: Swordsmanship, Elemental Magic…etc.》
…Wait. My Job is supposed to be Spirit User!
What’s going on here?
I quickly looked at the spirits.
Good. They were all still visible to me, just like always.
Could it be possible to hold two Jobs at once?
While I was puzzling over it, the branch manager called out, “What’s wrong, Takaya? Did something happen?”
Before I could answer, Misuzu spoke up for me. “Takaya-san just acquired the Hero Job!”
“What? Truly? Takaya, that’s incredible! Two Jobs at once—that’s extraordinary!”
Judging from his tone, it sounded like some people really did have more than one Job.
Relieved, I let out a quiet breath.
The branch manager gave a hearty laugh. “A Spirit User and a Hero? Takaya, you’re practically invincible now!”
I flushed, staring down at the ground. I had no desire to stand out, and being called “invincible” was honestly embarrassing.
Sensing Misuzu moving, I looked up again. She had already walked over to the left-hand chest.
She opened it, and inside was a complete set of equipment.
After appraising it, her eyes lit up.
“Takaya-san! This one’s spirit equipment for earth spirits! It matches ours perfectly!”
“We’ll have Mizuho-chan use it,” she added with a smile.
Yeah. Misuzu’s smile was absolutely radiant.
…Wait, no. That’s not the point.
Mizuho? Is she really going to move in with us?
Well, it’s not like we’re strapped for money. For now, I’ll just keep it stored safely in the Sky Castle.
With that thought, I placed the earth spirit equipment into my pouch.
