Misuzu Opens the Treasure Chest
Having received permission from the high-level wind spirit, we decided to open the treasure chest.
Since I had opened many chests before, I asked Misuzu to open this one.
She looked really happy.
Seeing her smile made me happy too.
Misuzu opened the chest.
Inside was a full set of light green equipment with stylish white lines.
When Misuzu took out the set, the chest disappeared in a sparkle of light.
It looked like a matching set, but in a different color from the water-themed armor I had given her before.
The set consisted of seven pieces: boots, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, chest armor, a hoodie, gloves, and a light green dagger.
Misuzu smiled and said, "It's a matching set but in a different color!"
Then she said, "I was worried about you, Takuya. So please wear this equipment from now on!"
I had never felt in danger because the spirits always protected me, but apparently Misuzu was worried.
I smiled and said, "Got it! From now on, I'll wear this when we enter dungeons. So don't worry!"
For now, we planned to have the magic stones appraised when we cashed them in to check the equipment’s stats.
Then, the high-level wind spirit gave us permission to freely explore the castle.
We decided to investigate with Misuzu.
The dining hall had a long table with chairs on both sides.
The kitchen was fully equipped with dishes and utensils but showed no signs of recent use.
Perhaps neither monsters nor spirits needed to eat, so the facilities were unused.
The armory was empty.
Next, we climbed the tower—the highest point in the sky castle.
A spiral staircase led up to a lookout room with a breathtaking view.
Misuzu said, "It's beautiful!"
I looked at her and replied, "Yes, it is."
Slowly, she turned her face toward me, and we gazed into each other’s eyes.
She closed her eyes.
I kissed her.
My heart was pounding.
Then I hugged her tightly.
As we held each other, Snow barked, "Woof!"
Startled, we pulled apart.
Embarrassed, I looked out the window.
In the distance, I saw a road leading to basement level 2.
A person was walking along it.
The silhouette looked like the robot I saw earlier in the lobby.
Next to them was someone who must be the lumberjack.
It was strange—looking up from the ground, the clouds were just clouds, and you couldn’t see this high tower.
But from the cloud castle, you could clearly see the ground.
Maybe some illusion magic or concealment spell was at work.
I couldn’t figure it out, so I decided to report it to the branch chief.
We returned to the audience chamber.
The high-level wind spirit was pleased the troublesome chest was gone.
They said we were free to come and go as we pleased and could use any room we liked.
When I told Misuzu, she cheered, "Yay! I'm so happy! Thank you, spirit!"
I thanked the spirit as well.
Misuzu seemed to be feeling like a princess living in the castle.
She was humming happily.
We entered the residential area to choose our rooms.
At the highest point of the living quarters, we found a large room with a king-size bed and fluffy bedding.
It must be the king’s room.
I decided to take it.
Since spirits don’t sleep and don’t need rooms, it should be fine.
I felt like the king of the sky castle.
Hehe.
Misuzu checked the room next door.
It was just as spacious but had a queen-size bed and a larger closet.
She decided on that room.
We ended up next door to each other.
There were only two rooms on this floor.
Both rooms had showers and toilets equipped with magical devices.
I tried inserting one of the magic stones from the audience chamber into a device.
Pressing a button, water came from the shower, and turning a lever switched it to hot water.
Since the dining hall’s kitchen also had magical appliances, we could live here if we had ingredients.
With the wind spirits guarding the castle, security was perfect!
When I first started living alone, I stocked up on instant curries and cup noodles.
But lately, I’ve been eating at the Nakamori family’s place, so the stock hasn’t gone down.
I’ll gradually move my supplies here.
The Adventurer’s Guild has a hotel attached to the branch office.
Explorers who come back late at night or leave early in the morning stay there for a low cost—not free.
But here, we could stay for free.
Yes, that’s a great idea.
I’ll suggest it to Misuzu.
Rent-free, free lodging, and spirit guards—a prime property.
With a great view and huge beds fit for royalty.
It might even be better than the house I inherited from my grandfather.
Life is unpredictable.
If I ever end up homeless, maybe Misuzu and I could live here together.
