The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills ,Volume 2 - Chapter 5

Chapter: Solo Job 2

At that moment, a boy appeared from behind a tree.

He looked to be in his mid-teens, with a slender build. His height was just over one hundred sixty centimeters, his hair was black, and his skin was pale. He wore dark green clothing and carried a crooked staff.

“Ah… I finally found you.”

The boy looked relieved as he approached Liza.

“You weren’t at the meeting spot, so I went looking for you… huh?”

His gaze shifted toward me.

“Who’s this?”

“An E-rank adventurer named Yakumo. Seems like he was out here solo, looking for materials.”

Liza answered.

“So, Tet, did you find the Sweet Fragrance Grass?”

“I found the ten bundles we needed… whoa!”

The boy—Tet—noticed the corpse and let out a loud cry.

“Wh-what is this?”

“It’s an adventurer’s corpse. Can’t you tell just by looking?”

“N-no, that’s not what I mean. Why is he dead?”

“Looks like he was killed by followers of the Dolls Cult.”

“The Dolls Cult…?”

Tet covered his mouth and peered at the body.

“Does that mean there are cultists nearby?”

“I don’t know if they’re here right now, but they were, a few hours ago.”

“Isn’t that… dangerous?”

“Yes. There’s no guarantee there was only one of them.”

“Then let’s just go back already! Liza, you’ve already taken down three Silver Wolves, right? That’s more than enough for a two-person party.”

Tet glanced around nervously.

“Come on, let’s head back to Tansa Town.”

“…You’re right.”

Liza turned her eyes to me.

“Hey, Yakumo. Is your job done?”

“Yeah, more or less.”

I answered her question.

“Then why don’t you come back to Tansa with us? You’d feel safer with a D-rank like me around, wouldn’t you?”

“That makes sense. And we need to report the body to the Adventurer’s Guild anyway.”

“Then it’s settled. I’ll protect you too.”

Liza grinned and gave me a thumbs-up.

Liza and Tet had apparently only formed a party recently.

Liza was a warrior with the Body Reinforcement skill. Tet was a mage who could use water magic.

According to Liza, Tet wasn’t very experienced in combat yet, but he had potential.

If Tet grew stronger, a warrior and a mage would make a good combination. Add more members, and they could become a really powerful party.

“Hey, Yakumo.”

Walking behind me, Liza pointed toward a sheer cliff.

“Isn’t this a dead end?”

“No, it’s fine.”

I focused my mind and materialized a platform of paper.

“With this, we can get to the top.”

Both Liza and Tet stared in amazement.

“Wow, so this is your ability.”

Liza stepped onto the first paper platform and gave a light jump.

“Pretty handy for traveling. Nice unique skill.”

“…Yeah. This is incredible.”

Tet touched the paper platform.

“I’ve never seen a skill like this before.”

“That’s true. It’s not really combat-oriented, but I bet it has plenty of uses.”

Liza’s comment made me scratch my head.

Yeah… people always think a paper-manipulating ability isn’t meant for combat. And they’re not wrong. Even Kilsas, the S-rank leader of the Holy Sword Brigade, dismissed Paper Manipulation as a trash skill back then. Well, to be fair, that was before I got the Extreme Magic Power unique skill.

We hopped from platform to platform, climbing up the cliff.
