The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills ,Volume 2 - Chapter 29

Chapter: Bishop Rugal

Suddenly, the surroundings brightened, and our vision expanded.

The space was vast, with a massive chasm at its far end. Melt’s hair stood on end when he saw Teto standing in front of it.

“Teto!”

Melt’s expression darkened with anger as he charged forward, followed by the other adventurers.

At that moment, a semi-transparent wall appeared before us, completely blocking the path.

“A wall—like this?!”

Melt thrust his red-bladed dagger at it, but the tip hit the wall without breaking through.

“Useless…”

From beyond the wall, a bishop in black robes appeared—Rugal. Behind him, over a hundred followers of the Dolls Church emerged.

Rugal lifted the corner of his mouth in a cold smile, staring at Melt through the translucent barrier.

“My wall blocks both physical and magical attacks. This is the power of my unique skill: [Magic Wall Enhancement].”

“A skill that strengthens the wall against magic attacks?”

“Exactly. Its effect is absolute—even high-tier spells cannot penetrate it.”

Rugal scanned the adventurers.

“…Hmm. Only about forty remain. Teto, is this not due to your failure?”

“It can’t be helped,” Teto pouted.

“They discovered I was a follower sooner than expected.”

“How disappointing. I had hoped you would at least assassinate Melt.”

“There was no chance. Flame Dragon Squad members were nearby, leaving no opening. That’s the advantage of being S-rank,” Teto shrugged.

“Still, you cut our forces by more than half. At least you did your minimum task.”

“Teto!”

Ryza pounded the semi-transparent wall with her fist.

“How dare you deceive us!”

“Ah—Ryza! Sorry, sorry,” Teto stuck out his tongue.

“I’m grateful to you, Ryza. Your sense of justice and reliability let me get close to the Flame Dragon Squad,” he said with a smirk.

“Grr…” Ryza ground her teeth.

“Melt,” Rugal approached him.

“You did well—defeating many Armor Golems and finding me. But the result does not change. You will die here in this cave.”

“Don’t talk nonsense!” Melt glared at him with dark blue eyes.

“The magic wall will eventually disappear. When that happens, I will kill you all in an instant!”

“Impossible. The wall’s effect will last for some time,” Rugal said calmly.

“Then you cannot attack us either.”

“No need,” Rugal glanced at the chasm behind him.

“We will escape through that rift. Once we detonate and seal it, there will be no escape for you.”

At that moment, Almine leaned close to my ear.

“Yakumo-kun, we might be able to do something about this wall.”

“You mean… we can dispel it?” I whispered.

“Yes. It requires a special material and my original magic, but I can manage a small section.”

“That’s enough. If even one person can pass through.”

“Understood. Then…”

Almine placed her right hand on the semi-transparent wall and began to chant.

Rugal’s laughter echoed.

“Heh heh heh. Then I shall take my leave. Seeing your despair has been… delightful.”

Suddenly, with a sound like shattering glass, the wall in front of Almine vanished. I moved through the opening and focused my concentration.

Thousands of sheets of paper materialized, forming a flock of birds that flew over the heads of the followers. The papers stacked together, blocking the rift behind them.

The followers stared in shock at the blocked exit.

“Good job, Yakumo!”

Kinako ran through the gap where the wall had been, joining me.

“Now the followers can’t escape. All that’s left is to take them out.”

“W-Wait! There’s a hole in the wall!”

A follower’s voice rang out as Rugal noticed the breach.

“Kill them and seal the hole!”

Several followers began chanting spells—trying to repair the magical wall. I wouldn’t allow it.

“Wind Shuriken!”

Shurikens imbued with wind magic pierced the followers.

“Gahh!”

The spellcasters fell to the ground, and the adventurers advanced through the wall, attacking the followers. Melt swiftly cut down four of them.

“This ends here! Exterminate the fanatics!”
