Chapter : The Flame Dragon Order’s Leader
The adventurers around us suddenly began to stir with excitement.
I looked ahead and saw them approaching—roughly eighty of them, every single one equipped with enchanted weapons.
As expected of the number one guild, the Flame Dragon Order. Most of them were C-rank or higher, and the strength they carried was evident in their expressions and the confident rhythm of their steps.
And then—
My eyes fixed on the woman at the head of the group.
She strode forward with long, purposeful steps, her orange hair flowing behind her like flickering flames. She seemed to shine, her presence almost dazzling.
“That’s Melt… Melt of the Four Blades,” Kinako murmured beside me.
“Four Blades?” I asked.
“Yeah. Her boots are fitted with a mechanism that lets blades of fire shoot out from the tips. Combine those with the short swords in her hands, and that makes four weapons.”
“Fighting with your feet… is that even possible?”
“It is. That’s why she’s S-rank. If she’s on your side, you can count yourself lucky.”
“Yeah… no kidding.”
Melt stopped in front of the assembled adventurers and opened her lips, which had been pressed into a firm line.
“Brave adventurers. Thank you for accepting this request!”
Her clear, commanding voice echoed across the clearing.
“Your mission is to locate the Dolls Church’s hidden temple. Each party will be assigned a designated search area, so make sure not to miss anything.”
“Melt,” a broad-shouldered man in his forties spoke up.
“If there’s a temple, that means plenty of cultists will be there, right? Are we looking at a large-scale fight?”
“Assume that you are,” Melt replied, her sharp gaze sweeping across the group.
“There’s no doubt some of their followers are skilled in combat. Three members of the Flame Dragon Order have already been killed recently. They may even attack us first.”
Her words made the adventurers’ expressions tighten.
“But don’t worry. We’ve gathered eighty battle-hardened members for this mission. If it comes to a fight, we’ll take the front line. All you need to do is focus on support.”
“Fair enough. With an S-rank like you around, that’s reassuring,” the man said, scratching his head.
“Now then, I’ll distribute detailed maps of Gahon Forest. Party leaders, come forward and collect them.”
At her signal, a young man at her side drew several dozen maps from a magic pouch. One by one, the party leaders stepped forward to take them.
“This is going to be easy,” Pirun said, grinning.
“Even if the cultists are strong, the Flame Dragon Order is stronger. And with an S-rank leader who has a title? It’s practically over before it starts.”
“Don’t let your guard down,” I warned, eyes fixed on the dense stretch of forest ahead.
“Gahon Forest is huge, and the search will be done in separate parties. If we get ambushed, there won’t be time to call for help.”
“He’s right,” Kinako nodded.
“Even S-rank adventurers can die to weaker enemies. One ambush, one bad matchup, and that’s the end. Never forget—being the strongest doesn’t mean you always win.”
Being the strongest doesn’t always mean victory…
Kinako’s right. One mistake, one lapse in judgment, and even the mighty can fall. The goddess of fate, Dalis, is fickle like that.
I glanced toward Almine as she accepted a map from one of the Flame Dragon members.
She’s a C-rank adventurer and a top-class alchemist. She can use advanced magic by consuming materials, and her healing spells are some of the best. But when it comes to close combat, she’s not cut out for it.
Pirun and Kinako will handle the frontline. That means it’s up to me to protect Almine.
