The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills ,Volume 2 - Chapter 1

Chapter: Battle on the Night Grassland

I stood on the vast grassland under the glow of a giant moon.

A cold wind stirred my purplish hair, and the thick scent of grass filled my nostrils.

“Yakumo-kun.”

Almine, our party leader and an alchemist, called out to me.

Her pink semi-long hair, pale skin, deep dark blue eyes, and delicately shaped lips complemented her elegant white outfit.

“Kinako just contacted us through the remote communication magic tool. Looks like she’ll be here soon.”

“Got it.”

I turned my gaze toward the southern forest.

The forest stretched wide, densely packed with towering trees over twenty meters high. Near the branches, dozens of translucent, pale blue glowing creatures—forest jellyfish—floated gently.

As if sensing something, the forest jellyfish slowly began drifting away from the trees.

Then—

One after another, dozens of trees toppled, and a colossal dragon emerged from the forest—the Needle Dragon.

Its entire body was covered in dark blue-black spikes, and a golden horn adorned its forehead. It had no wings, but its tail split into three.

The Needle Dragon let out a roar and chased after Kinako, who was running ahead.

Just as planned, Kinako had brought the dragon here. Impressive.

Kinako was a catfolk with orange tabby fur and was an A-rank adventurer. Though she looked the size of a human child, she was so strong she had earned the nickname “Kinako the Demon Slayer.”

Checking the distance between herself and the Needle Dragon, Kinako closed in on our position.

“It’ll go according to plan.”

Almine stepped forward and raised her right hand.

A magic circle appeared in her right eye, and a purple magic circle formed above the Needle Dragon’s head. Black mist poured from it, enveloping the beast.

It was a gravity-based spell effective against giant monsters.

The massive creature’s huge frame sank several centimeters into the grassland.

“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for!”

Pirun, who had been hiding in the grass on the right, appeared.

Pirun was a fifteen-year-old girl and a D-rank berserker. She had a slender figure, purple eyes, and sharp teeth visible through her slightly open mouth. Her waist-length hair was styled in twin tails, and she wore a separated outfit showing her midriff.

“I am Pirun, the Berserker of Love and Justice! Here I come!”

She grabbed the colorful “Magical Hammer” from her waist, and it grew to an enormous size.

“The bad dragon that ate all the cows in Edin Village deserves punishment!”

With that, she charged the Needle Dragon. Planting her left foot firmly, she twisted her body and slammed the hammer into the dragon’s body. The dark blue spikes shattered and fell to the ground.

“Goraaah!”

The Needle Dragon turned its long neck, spotting Pirun, and launched a volley of dark spikes at her.

Pirun dodged with swift movements and circled behind the beast.

“Berserker Mode: Activated!”

Pirun’s violet eyes gleamed as her pupils narrowed vertically.

She stepped forward with her left foot and struck the Needle Dragon’s hind leg with her hammer.

A loud thud echoed, and the dragon wobbled.

As expected, Pirun’s berserker mode was incredibly powerful.

“Good job, Pirun!”

Kinako spun around and dashed at the Needle Dragon, extending her pink paw.

“‘Paw Ripple Palm’!”

Waves spread across the dragon’s body, and black blood spilled from its open mouth.

As expected of Kinako, she dealt a massive blow in a single strike.

Alright! It’s my turn.

I gripped my “Magic-Eating Dagger” tightly and dashed forward.

“Gooooah!”

The Needle Dragon recoiled, curling its body. Hundreds of dark blue spikes launched in all directions.

I focused and activated my unique skill, Paper User.

Imagining the magic formula—called “Mahoshiki,” a combination of magical letters and patterns—I cast the spell in my mind.

“‘Magic Barrier Strength Four’!”

Over a hundred thick white sheets of paper materialized, forming a wall between Pirun, Kinako, and the incoming spikes.

The dark blue spikes struck the white barrier, protecting my comrades.

I closed in on the Needle Dragon and poured magical energy into my dagger. The blade extended over two meters, glowing pale blue, and sliced through the dragon’s front leg.

“Gogaaaah!”

The dragon let out a roar that shook the earth and opened its mouth wide, spewing blue flames.

Moving to its side, I conjured hundreds of paper daggers, which launched forward and stabbed into the dragon’s body one after another.

“Gogaaaah!”

The Needle Dragon shook its massive body, trying to retreat back to the forest.

At that moment, the earth rose before it, forming a massive wall of soil over twenty meters high and stretching over a hundred meters long.

As planned, Almine’s earth magic blocked the dragon’s escape.

Now it’s just me, Pirun, and Kinako to finish it!

“Gouuuu!”

The Needle Dragon, back against the earthen wall, glared at me.

It seemed it was ready to fight instead of fleeing.

It stretched its neck and unleashed a torrent of blue flames, igniting the grassland in an instant.

“Yakumo! I need a footing!”

Kinako shouted.

“Got it!”

I conjured countless paper platforms around us.

Kinako and Pirun leapt onto the platforms.

I jumped from one platform to another, closing in on the dragon.

The dragon twisted its neck, aiming to bite Pirun.

I swung my Magic-Eating Dagger, slicing through its tough scales. Black blood sprayed from the neck wound.

“Goraaah!”

Still, the Needle Dragon didn’t stop moving.

It whipped its three-pronged tail, smashing the floating platforms one after another.

Still struggling? Then take this!

I drew from the fire-imbued paper stored in my magic pouch.

“‘Giant Axe Flame Dragon’!”

Hundreds of sheets combined into a massive axe wreathed in flames.

“Take this!”

The flaming giant axe severed the dragon’s long neck.

Its massive head crashed to the ground, and the Needle Dragon’s movements ceased.

Then—

Its colossal body tipped and collapsed onto its side.

It’s defeated... isn’t it?
