Chapter : The Trump Card
"N-No way..."
Daglud stared at me in disbelief.
"How did the pillar disappear?"
"Because it was a paper pillar I made."
I held my demon-eating dagger ready and answered his question.
"Paper... you say?"
"Yeah. It's a special paper with a camouflage effect. I made the pillar out of it and had Kinako lure you there."
"Ugh... You bastard!"
Daglud raised his golden sword in anger.
He's forgotten that I still have something left up my sleeve.
I sent the paper birds swirling overhead crashing into Daglud's back.
A loud explosion echoed as part of his armor was damaged.
"Leave the rest to me!"
Kinako charged at Daglud.
“Paw Ripple Palm!”
Kinako's paw struck Daglud's side hard. His face twisted in pain, and his golden sword dropped to the ground.
“Don’t forget about me!”
Sylphiel attacked from the opposite side, swinging the Twin-Headed Light King’s Blade while quickly chanting a spell.
Blue-white light radiated from Sylphiel’s palms, striking Daglud’s abdomen in a straight line.
“Gah... ugh...”
Still, Daglud didn’t fall. Bleeding blue-purple from his stomach, he put distance between himself and Kinako and Sylphiel.
“Give up now.”
Kinako approached him.
“In this situation, your chances of winning are zero.”
“I’ll remember your faces... The next time we fight, it will be the time you die!”
“You really think there’s a next time?”
“There is.”
Black wings sprouted from Daglud’s back, and he floated up softly.
“You won’t escape!”
Kinako jumped high, trying to grab Daglud’s ankle, but missed by a hair.
Daglud smiled with a smirk.
Too soon to be smiling.
I manifested countless paper platforms around the hovering Daglud and moved closer using them.
“Again with you!”
Daglud glared and aimed his right hand at me, firing a pale blue beam from his fingertips.
I jumped across the paper platforms, dodging the beam.
For a moment, I saw Kinako and Sylphiel using the platforms to approach as well.
Those two can use these platforms to attack Daglud.
“Damn...”
Daglud tried to fly higher.
Not on my watch.
It’s time to use my trump card!
I unleashed all the special paper stored in my magic pocket...
“‘Golden Paper Blizzard’!”
Golden, glittering tiny shards of paper swirled like a blizzard.
The small shards sliced into Daglud’s body, and whenever shards collided, they exploded repeatedly.
Each shard is smaller than a pinky nail but packed with powerful magic—and they detonate on contact with each other.
The repeated explosions gradually tore Daglud’s wings and shattered parts of his armor.
“Gah...!”
Daglud staggered, his body tilting downward.
Sylphiel, who had been chanting nearby, charged from the side.
“‘Divine Strike: Moonbow’!”
The Twin-Headed Light King’s Blade shimmered in seven colors, piercing through Daglud’s armor.
“Gah... ah...”
Daglud’s eyes widened as he stared at the large hole torn in his chest.
“This is my finishing move. I combined all six elemental magics to push the Twin-Headed Light King’s Blade’s power to its limit.”
Sylphiel licked her upper lip.
“No creature has ever survived this attack.”
“N-No... this can’t be...”
Daglud’s voice faltered, the gleam in his golden eyes fading.
And then—
His body plummeted straight down.
With a sickening crunch, blue-purple blood spread across the temple floor.
