The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills - Chapter 40

Chapter :: A-Rank Adventurer Kinako

“Yakumo, leave those guys to me.”

Kinako stepped in front of me and grabbed the gourd hanging from his waist. Without hesitation, he popped the lid off and drank the contents in a single gulp.
The sharp, fruity aroma of Churu wine quickly spread through the air.

“Wait—you're drinking right now?!”

“Hah. I get stronger when I’m drunk.”

Kinako smirked.

“The drunker I get, the stronger I become. That’s the secret behind my Paw Drunken Fist.”

Swaying slightly, he staggered forward.

Two Metallic Dolls moved in from both sides, aiming simultaneous strikes at him.
But Kinako twisted his upper body backward with exaggerated sway, narrowly dodging both attacks. Then, using that momentum, he spun his body and slammed his back into the left leg of one doll.
With another twist, he delivered a powerful strike to the doll’s abdomen with his paw.

The Metallic Doll was launched over five meters into the air.

The second doll reached out, trying to grab Kinako’s head with its right hand.

“Whoops…”

Kinako dropped flat onto his back just in time.
The doll bent forward and drove its massive fist toward his head.

But Kinako tilted his neck aside, and the punch missed—smashing the ground instead.

“Too bad for you.”

Twisting his body like a real cat, Kinako sprang up and landed a blow under the doll’s chin with his paw.
A sound like shattering glass rang out, and the Metallic Doll collapsed.

Kinako swiftly retreated to avoid the explosion.

“Hah. Even if their armor’s tough, my paws can hit the core directly.”

Still swaying drunkenly, Kinako spun and lunged at a nearby skeleton soldier.

As expected from Kinako. No worries on that front.

I turned and rushed toward the skeleton soldier attacking the elf Milfa, driving my Devourer Dagger into its side.
The long, pale-blue blade shattered its neck, and its skull dropped cleanly to the ground.

“Milfa! Let the Moonlight Brigade know—there’s a bridge to the south!”

“Ah… r-right! Got it!”

Milfa nodded and quickly relayed my message to the nearby allies.

“Retreat! Fall back!”
A B-rank member shouted.

Everyone stopped fighting and made a run for the southern path.

Once there was some distance between us and the enemy, I focused my energy.

Magical Barrier—Strength Level Seven!

A wall of metal-like enchanted paper formed between the skeleton soldiers and our group.

This should buy us some time… or so I thought.

Suddenly, part of the barrier was torn apart.
From the gap stepped Daglud—his golden sword gleaming ominously in his hand.

Tch! He sliced through a level-seven barrier in one swing?! That sword is dangerous.

“Yakumo! We need to retreat too!”

Kinako rushed back toward me.

“With the situation like this, going for Daglud is too risky. There are just too many skeleton soldiers.”

“Yeah… we’d better regroup.”

I glanced toward Daglud’s side.
Two more Metallic Dolls were guarding him closely.

If we’re going to take him down, we’ll need to get rid of the skeletons and the dolls first—then find a way to shift the battle to our favor.

With determination in my heart, I clenched my jaw and ran alongside Kinako.
