My Fated Person (3)
I rode my bike over to Shiraishi-kun’s house.
It was his grandfather’s place.
There was a small garden where he grew three eggplants, three bell peppers, and some cherry tomatoes.
Next to that, he had some seed potatoes planted.
He said, “I’m not doing it to sell or anything, just to help with food costs.”
The house was two stories.
When I said, “Cleaning must be tough,” he laughed and said, “I use wind magic from the Wind Spirit to blow the dust outside, so I’ve never actually cleaned myself.”
I asked about laundry.
He said, “I have a cleaning spell called Clean from the Light Spirit. It cleans without water or detergent, so it’s eco-friendly.”
Watching Shiraishi-kun smile like that made my heart race.
If I’m not careful, he might see me blushing.
So, I asked, “Could you show me the dungeon behind your house?”
Maybe if I followed behind him quietly, taking deep breaths, I’d be okay.
I stepped into the dungeon on the hill behind his house.
Suddenly, a mechanical female voice echoed inside my head.
“Tamer JOB has been assigned.”
I was startled by the voice in my head.
When I told Shiraishi-kun, he said he had just the thing, and handed me two eggs.
He said only Tamers can hatch these eggs, and once hatched, you name and contract with the creatures.
That night, I put the eggs under my futon before going to sleep, planning to keep them close.
Something soft and fluffy brushed my cheek.
Slowly, I woke up and opened my eyes.
There, beside my pillow, was something white and fluffy.
Startled, I jumped out of bed.
Looking closely, one was a pure white rabbit—but it had horns on its head and a jewel on its forehead.
The other was a pure white puppy with incredibly soft fur.
They’d hatched!
I remembered Shiraishi-kun saying to name and contract with them.
I named the white rabbit Shiratama (White Pearl).
The puppy I named Snow.
Both seemed to like their names; I felt a kind of connection or “pass” link form between us.
After changing out of my pajamas, I carried both downstairs.
I showed them to my mom in the kitchen and explained, “I have the Tamer JOB, and I’ve tamed these two.”
I asked if I could keep them at home and take care of them.
Mom agreed.
She started petting them, and both were very calm.
While Mom was busy with them, I called Shiraishi-kun and asked him to come over right away.
When he arrived, my brother woke up and I introduced Shiratama and Snow.
My brother encouraged me to register with the Explorer’s Association.
That’s when I decided to become an explorer myself.
We headed to the Explorer’s Association in my brother’s car.
Shiraishi-kun said he works as a solo explorer.
I asked if he’d join my party.
He said yes.
Yay!
I was so happy.
Translator’s Notes:
-
JOB: A “job” or “class” system common in RPG and fantasy stories, indicating a character’s role or abilities. Here, “Tamer” means someone who can summon or bond with creatures.
-
Shiratama (白玉): Literally means “white pearl,” a common cute name for a white animal or sweet in Japan.
-
Spirit magic: Elemental spirits granting magical abilities, e.g., wind and light spirits.
-
The mechanical female voice announcing the JOB assignment is a typical fantasy game trope.
-
The hatching eggs and bonding ritual symbolize the start of the protagonist’s new path as a tamer and adventurer.
-
The warmth and casual family interactions ground the fantasy in everyday life, making it relatable.
