Changing Days and Unchanging Days ②
When we arrived at school, I parted ways with Aoyama-kun and the three of us went into the classroom.
After sitting down, Takasugi-kun began his bragging.
Apparently, he had gone to Hawaii with his family over Golden Week.
He talked about eating steak and enjoying shopping.
Yeah.
Same as always.
Looking at the seat next to me, Nakamori-san was looking at her textbook, completely ignoring Takasugi-kun’s story.
Totally brushing it off.
Takasugi-kun kept glancing over at me.
Then our eyes met.
For some reason, I got glared at.
That was the usual.
Morning classes ended and it became lunchtime.
Yamada-san came over and spun around the seat in front of Nakamori-san so they could sit facing each other.
Aoyama-kun from the neighboring class also spun my seat around to face me, and the four of us ate lunch together.
Then Takasugi-kun came by and said, "Today's main is A5-grade Wagyu roast beef. Want some?"
Nakamori-san said, "No thanks," and he looked disappointed as he returned to his seat.
After glaring at me again.
Same as always.
After classes ended, the four of us headed home.
At the nearest station, Yamada-san and Aoyama-kun parted ways, and Nakamori-san and I walked together toward the Nakamori house.
Once home, we decided to finish our homework.
It seemed Misuzu was better at Japanese and English, while I was better at math.
We taught each other and finished our homework.
After finishing, I moved to the Japanese-style room and sat cross-legged.
Snow came over and sat beside me.
I pet Snow.
Misuzu made some tea, and the two of us ate snacks.
Then Shiratama came over.
Misuzu petted Shiratama while eating snacks.
As we both petted them, Mom returned from work.
Mom and Misuzu started preparing dinner.
Misuzu had started learning cooking from Mom.
Left alone in the Japanese-style room, I pet Snow and Shiratama.
After a while, Kenta came home.
He put his things down in his room upstairs, then came into the Japanese-style room, sat cross-legged, placed Shiratama on his lap, and petted him.
Kenta and I were “mofu friends” (petting buddies)!
While petting, Misuzu called us to dinner.
The four of us chatted while finishing dinner.
Then I headed home.
As I rode my bike, I thought about sharing some of the vegetables from the farm once the harvest was ready.

-
A5 Wagyu beef (A5ランクの黒毛和牛) is the highest grade of Japanese beef, known for exceptional marbling and quality. It’s a luxury item, so Takasugi’s brag is meant to impress.
-
The social dynamics highlight Takasugi-kun as the typical boastful classmate, largely ignored by the main group.
-
The “spin the seat” is a common school gesture in Japan to face someone while talking or eating in class.
-
“Mofu” (もふもふ) is a cute onomatopoeia meaning “fluffy” or “petting.” It’s often used to describe petting animals and has a warm, cozy feeling.
-
The Japanese-style room (和室, washitsu) typically has tatami mats, where sitting cross-legged (胡座, agura) is common.
-
The mention of the farm vegetables indicates ongoing connections to their rural or semi-rural lifestyle and the protagonist’s sense of responsibility.
