Chapter – Battle of the Holy Sword Order

In a plaza on the eastern side of the underground city, Galdie and the members of the Holy Sword Order were locked in battle against several dozen skeleton soldiers.

“Galdie-san!”

A B-rank adventurer named Adol rushed over to Galdie.

“Two of the support members were taken out. These skeleton soldiers… they’re not normal.”

“Tch! Getting killed by monsters of this level?”
Clicking his tongue, Galdie swung a short sword with a crimson blade. The skull of a nearby skeleton soldier was sliced off, and its body collapsed sideways.

“Split the support members into two teams and put Ugo and Ramon in command!”

As he gave orders, Galdie began chanting a spell.

A black sphere materialized in the air, growing larger and larger.

“Take this! — ‘Dark Magic Sphere!’”

As Galdie moved his left hand, the black sphere followed his motion and slammed into the skeleton soldiers.

With a loud explosion, bone fragments scattered in all directions.

“Come at me all at once! I’ll show you the power of an A-rank magic warrior!”

Galdie kept summoning dark spheres one after another, crushing the skeleton soldiers that approached.

A few minutes later, after defeating all of the skeleton soldiers, Galdie regrouped with the rest of the order.

“We lost five people,” Adol reported.

“Henrik, Talst, and…”
“I don’t care about the names of the dead! Are the rest fine?”

“Y-Yes. There were injuries, but we used recovery potions.”

“...Damn it. And it happened under my command. This’ll hurt my evaluation.”

Galdie kicked the corpse of a fallen skeleton soldier at his feet.

Damn it! I just joined the Holy Sword Order, and this is what I get? Talk about unlucky.

“...In that case, we move as one group from here on. There may still be skeleton soldiers nearby.”

“Good idea,” Adol nodded.

“Most of the support members are D-rank or lower. If we face any more enhanced skeletons, there could be more casualties.”

“...Right. So the only reliable ones are you, and the C-ranks Ugo and Ramon.”

Galdie scratched the wolf-like ears protruding from his head.

“Anyway, we’re going to find that investigation team before the Moonlight Order does. That’ll save face. Stay sharp, all of you!”

Just then, a man in his mid-twenties stepped out from behind a nearby building.

He was over 180 cm tall with a lean build. His skin was pale, and his long silver hair flowed down his back. From his forehead, two black horns—marks of a demon—protruded.

“A-A demon!”
Adol shouted, and the other members of the Holy Sword Order all drew their weapons at once.

Galdie pointed his crimson short sword at the demon.

The demon calmly approached the tense group and opened his fang-lined mouth.

“Who are you people?”

“We’re adventurers from the Holy Sword Order. You’re the demon who enhanced the skeleton soldiers, aren’t you?”

“That’s right. I’m Daglud.”

The demon—Daglud—surveyed the group with a dispassionate gaze.

“...Hmm. I suppose I don’t need you.”

“Need us? For what?”

“To make more slaves. I’ve already captured a fair number of humans.”

“A fair number, huh? So you are the one holding the investigation team captive.”

Galdie curled his lips into a smirk.

“Lucky us.”

“Lucky?”

“Yeah. If we take you down, our reputation with the Holy Sword Order goes up.”

Galdie licked his upper lip.

“Adol, Ugo, Ramon! Flank right! All support members, move left!”

Following Galdie’s commands, the members of the Holy Sword Order began moving into position.

“Too bad for you, Daglud. Coming out here alone means we can surround you. You won’t be able to escape.”

“There’s no need to escape,” Daglud replied in a flat tone.

“A mere twenty humans are no concern.”

“If they were ordinary humans, maybe.”

Galdie stepped forward.

“Unfortunately for you, I’m not normal. I’ve even defeated demons before.”

“...Then you’re mistaken.”

“Mistaken?” Galdie tilted his head.

“What am I wrong about?”

“That all demons are the same strength. Some are ogre-level. Others… are stronger than dragons.”

“You trying to say you’re stronger than a dragon?”

“Exactly. And—”

Daglud raised his right hand.

Suddenly, from the shadows of the surrounding buildings, over two hundred skeleton soldiers appeared.

With rattling jaws, the undead warriors drew their curved swords in unison.
