The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills - Chapter 30

Sylphiel

"No. I’ll be the one to defeat the demons."

The voice came from behind Arumine—Kinako had spoken up.

At the sight of Kinako, Sylphiel’s silver eyebrows twitched slightly.

"Kinako the Demon Slayer, huh?"

Sylphiel glanced over our party.

"What a strange group. With your skills, couldn’t you have gathered higher-ranked allies?"

"I’m not the leader of this party. The leader is Arumine, the alchemist."

Kinako pointed toward Arumine with a white claw.

"And besides, you'd do well not to judge my companions by their ranks. There might be a future S-Rank among them."

"…You’ve got some nerve."

Sylphiel smirked, lifting one corner of her mouth.

"Just don’t get in our way, alright? Come on, Milfa."

"Y-Yes!"

With that, Sylphiel and Milfa turned their backs to us and walked away.

So that was Sylphiel, one of the Twelve Heroes...

She might not look all that imposing, but she’s said to be a master of close-quarters combat and capable of using all six elemental magics. I think she’s even taken down several calamity-class monsters before.

"You can really feel that S-Rank aura from her," Arumine said with a shrug.

"If she’s around, maybe we won’t have to worry about the demons."

"There’s no need to rely on Sylphiel. I’ll take care of the demons myself."

Kinako bared his sharp white fangs.

"Alright, alright," Arumine said, touching one of Kinako’s ears.

"This mission isn’t about defeating demons, remember? We need to find the members of the survey team first."

"Hmph. I know that. So stop touching my ears."

"Sorry, sorry. But your ears are so soft and fluffy, I can’t help it~"

Even as she apologized, Arumine kept stroking Kinako’s ear.

"Fine, next time I’ll touch your paw pads instead."

"My paw pads are even more off-limits!"

Kinako swatted her hand away with an annoyed expression.

"So, where exactly is the survey team supposed to be?"

Pirun stood on tiptoe, scanning the underground city.

"This town is too big! I can’t even see the edges, and there are buildings everywhere!"

"We’ll just have to search anyway," Arumine said, scratching her head.

"I want to find the survey team as soon as possible."

"Yeah, me too."

I looked at the corpse of one of the skeleton soldiers.

If there are more enhanced skeletons like this out there, then splitting up is too risky.

Looks like this is going to take time...

📝 Translator’s Notes — Chapter: Sylphiel

  1. Sylphiel’s Power Level: Sylphiel’s introduction continues the trend of subverting expectations—she looks like a child, yet she’s a high elf, a magic swordswoman, and a member of the Twelve Heroes, capable of defeating calamity-class monsters. This duality is a recurring motif in light novel storytelling.

  2. Kinako vs Sylphiel: Their subtle rivalry hints at layered pasts. Kinako’s title, “Demon Slayer,” clearly precedes him, and even Sylphiel acknowledges it with guarded respect.

  3. Comedic Relief: Arumine’s fixation on Kinako’s ears and paws brings levity. This comedic rhythm contrasts with the tension of demon threats and adds flavor to the party’s dynamics.

  4. World Building - The Twelve Heroes: We now know Sylphiel is one of them. There are presumably 11 others, and the mention implies a wider political or legendary structure across the Gem Continent.
