The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills - Chapter 32

Chapter: Galdy vs. Daglud

Galdy’s expression stiffened.

“Tch! There’s this many of them!?”

“G-Galdy-san…”

Adol looked around, his voice trembling.

“This is bad… with these numbers, there’s no way we can win…”

“Just hold the skeleton soldiers off for three minutes! That’s all I need to defeat Daglud!”

No sooner had Galdy shouted than he lunged straight at Daglud.

“Die, you damned demon!”

He kicked off hard with his right foot and thrust his red-bladed dagger forward.

“Futile.”

A translucent wall appeared in front of Daglud, repelling the dagger’s blade.

“You think that’s enough to stop me!?”

Galdy reached out with his left hand and touched the wall. As he chanted a spell to dispel it, the wall disappeared.

“Too bad for you! I’m a magic swordsman!”

The tip of Galdy’s dagger grazed Daglud’s chest—but Daglud caught the blade with his right hand.

Galdy tried to push it in, but his body suddenly froze in place.

“Kuh… What the… I can’t… move…?”

“Is this all your strength amounts to?”

Daglud tilted his head slightly.

“You don’t seem all that different from the average human.”

“Don’t mock me!”

Galdy let go of the dagger and chanted a spell.

A ten-centimeter-wide black sphere formed in front of his chest.

“At this range, there’s no way you can dodge this…!”

The black sphere launched forward and exploded directly against Daglud’s chest.

“Ha! What an idiot! Took my Dark Magic Sphere head-on like—huh?”

Galdy’s eyes went wide as he saw Daglud standing completely unharmed.

“Hmm. I took that hit as a test—it packed decent power.”

Daglud brushed off his unscathed black clothing.

“Now then… let’s see what your defense is like.”

Daglud drew a slim sword from his waist and stepped forward. Galdy, still stunned, reacted too slowly—the blade pierced his shoulder.

“Gah…!”

Groaning in pain, Galdy staggered back, putting distance between them.

“Hmm. Your clothes are made of magic materials, so they resist physical damage, but it looks like your body isn’t magically enhanced. So you can’t use support magic. That’s… troublesome.”

“T-Troublesome? What do you mean by that?”

“It means there’s no point in testing the weapon I just got from the Porta civilization.”

Daglud dropped his slim sword and conjured a new one—a golden blade with magic runes carved into the hilt and a distorted, jagged edge.

“Well, might as well try it. Do me a favor and don’t die too quickly.”

His gaze sharpened like a needle.

“D-Dammit…!”

Clutching his wounded shoulder, Galdy began backing away.

More than half the members of the Holy Sword Corps nearby had already been cut down by the skeleton soldiers.

Screams and angry shouts filled the air.

“We can’t! Galdy-san!”

Adol rushed to Galdy’s side.

“Ugo and Ramon are down!”
“How many are left?”
“Seven… no, six.”
“Grr…”

Galdy looked over the remaining party members being surrounded by skeletons.

“…Adol! You’re with me!”

Galdy conjured another black sphere and hurled it at a cluster of skeleton soldiers to the right. It exploded, sending white bones flying.

He and Adol fought their way through the enemies and broke through the encirclement. They climbed a narrow stairway between buildings, and Adol used his greatsword to collapse a wall behind them.

The rubble blocked the stairs and halted the pursuing skeletons.

“Alright! That should buy us time…”

Galdy pulled a healing potion from the enchanted pouch at his waist and downed it. The bleeding in his shoulder stopped, and the wound closed up.

“Galdy-san…”

Adol pointed down at their remaining comrades, still surrounded.

“What do we do? If we don’t go back, they’ll…”
“There’s nothing we can do!”

Galdy slammed his fist into the wall.

“If we go back now, we’ll just die too. Even if we somehow handle the skeletons, that demon is impossible. Not even an S-rank adventurer could beat him.”
“B-But then we’re abandoning our comrades…”
“We have no choice! Accept reality!”

Galdy grabbed Adol’s shoulder.

“What can the two of us accomplish if we go back? Even my strongest spell, the Dark Magic Sphere, couldn’t hurt him. There’s nothing we can do!”
“Then… what should we do?”
“…We return to the surface. The two of us can’t change anything down here.”

Galdy turned his back to the blood-soaked battle behind them, jaw clenched tightly.
