Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 65

Chapter 65: A Recollection of One Who Admired a Hero

I always admired the heroes on TV.

No matter how vicious the kaijin or monsters they faced, they never backed down. They fought, always standing their ground. I was fascinated by that strength.

But that kind of thing only happens on TV.

The real me—Kato Masayoshi—was the most typical kind of go-with-the-flow guy. The kind of person furthest from anything heroic.

If something went wrong, I left it to someone else. If I had to pick a side between the majority and the minority, I chose the majority without a second thought. I hid my love for heroes and forced myself to keep up with trends I didn’t care about, just to maintain some shallow relationships.

In short, I was an ordinary, boring guy. The farthest thing from a hero.

Until that day.

“Welcome, dear Hero and your companions. I am Priscilla El Centiel—First Princess of the Kingdom of Centiel, the last remaining human nation in this world, and the Holy Maiden blessed by the summoning god Ashera.”

A grand temple like something out of a fantasy anime or tokusatsu series.
Inside the massive hall, a stunning girl in a blue dress—clearly something incredibly valuable even to my untrained eyes—bowed before us, speaking with grace.

By some bizarre twist of fate, the entire 2-B class—all 25 of us present in that classroom on the last day before summer break—had been summoned to another world on the brink of destruction as heroes and their companions.

I don’t know how the others felt, but I’d never felt more excited or elated in my life.

I had a chance to become something special. I could finally become the hero I’d always dreamed of since I was a child.

That’s what I thought, but of course, reality wasn’t that kind.

“O all-powerful God, strike him down with your judgment—Lightning Magic!”

“Guh…!?”

Another classmate, foolish enough to defy Amagi, was struck down by his strongest spell—Lightning Magic—with ease.

“Looks like I win. I hope you’ll cooperate from now on.”

With a fake smile, Amagi turned and walked away. All I could do was watch from behind a pillar, trembling.

Yeah, that’s right. Even if you’re summoned to another world and given powers, a nobody is still a nobody.
Only someone like Amagi Seiya—someone born special in every way—can be truly exceptional.

Soon after arriving in this world, we underwent something called an "aptitude assessment." It measured which stats would grow easily, what Skills we had, and what Skills we could learn.

Mine were Blacksmithing Skill and Design. Totally ordinary, unremarkable Skills for this world.
My stats were unimpressive, and about 20% of our class were similarly diagnosed as unsuitable for combat.

The only thing we could do was support the combatants—or rather, handle the grunt work.

And then...

“Also, Kato. This sword’s edge is dull. Fix it up for me.”

“Y-Yes! Right away!”

Handing me a practice sword, Amagi walked off to meet with Rin Kayama and Princess Priscilla.

Guys like me, who lacked the talent for battle or failed out of training, had to grovel to Amagi just to survive.
I turned a blind eye to the way he abused anyone who defied him, telling myself it was necessary to stay alive.

And I dared to think I admired heroes? What a joke.

One day, while I was on my way back to my room—my so-called workshop—carrying a sword...

“You there.”

“…Huh?”

A voice called out. I turned around and saw a woman in a fortune-teller’s outfit, half her face obscured by a black mask.

“You seem to be harboring quite a bit of dissatisfaction… and frustration with this world.”

“Uh, what are you talking about? I need to get this sword fixed for Amagi, so—”

“You’re angry, aren’t you? Angry that despite dreaming of becoming a hero, you're stuck supporting villains. You tell yourself you had no choice, that you’d die otherwise. But deep down, you hate yourself for still being a nobody… even after all this.”

She laughed softly, as if enjoying herself, exposing every insecurity I’d kept buried.

“Then what was I supposed to do!? Against someone like Amagi, who’s better in every way—physically, mentally, magically—what could I possibly do!?”

I grabbed her shoulders and yelled.

“You couldn’t have done anything,” she replied calmly. “Not while you’re shackled to this world.”

Then she handed me a ring and a crystal.

“...What are these?”

“The ring is a magic item that lets you travel to another world—but only one you’ve previously visited. It disappears after a single use.”

“So you’re saying I should run away to Earth with my tail between my legs? That won’t solve anything—!”

“That’s where the crystal comes in. As long as you have it, you can use your Skills even in the other world. It even supplies the mana you’ll need.”

If that’s true—then I could use my powers on Earth too.

“I offer these to you. What you do with them… is up to you.”

“But… why me? What do you want from me?”

“I just want to see you shine. That’s all I desire.”

With a quiet chuckle, she vanished into the darkness.

Left alone, I stared at the ring and crystal in my hand.

If I stayed here, I’d just be a nobody side-character helping the bad guys.
Then maybe… just maybe—

“Tch…!”

I slid the ring onto my finger—and the world twisted around me.

――The next moment.

“…I actually made it back.”

I was standing in the middle of a familiar Japanese neighborhood.

◇◇◇

Back in my world, I headed straight to an abandoned mountain shack and started planning.

Going home was out of the question.
Selling my powers to the government? Too risky—I’d probably be treated like a lab rat.

Which left one final option—

“I’ll build it. A secret organization… for me, by me, and only me!”

I moved fast.

Using my “useless” Skills—Blacksmithing and Design—I created the very hero suit I’d idolized as a child.
Not a cosplay. A real suit: stealth features, instant equipping, and combat functionality.

I wore the suit and fought crime now and then, while building a flying fortress like the one from that old Sunday morning show.

And then one night, I experienced a turning point.

“Please! Grant me the power to fight too! I want to be a shield for others, like you!”

A girl I’d saved from a thug begged me with sparkling eyes.

She believed in me. She acknowledged what I was doing.

High on that praise, I said something incredibly foolish.

‘Very well. I, the holy Hero returned from another world, shall grant you power.’

That moment marked the birth of the Super Rescue Sentai—and the beginning of my end.

At first, our motto was simple: “Protect the weak. Defeat the wicked.”
We only went after bad guys.

But people… people are terrifying.

Soon, just punishing villains wasn’t enough.

I added mind-control elements to the suits, ensuring those saved would desire to wear them.
To increase loyalty, I introduced a points system.
Eventually, I even gave wearers a euphoric sense of awe when they looked at me—along with partial memory loss.

And so, my humble secret base turned into a kingdom—with me at its center.

But this was Japan. There weren’t enough real villains like in the other world.

So I started doing the unthinkable.

I began labeling anyone who looked like a delinquent as evil—no questions asked.

Translator's Notes:

  • "ヒーロースーツ" is rendered as "hero suit," referring to Sentai-style armor.

  • "モルモット" is a metaphor for being treated like a test subject or lab rat.

  • The organization name 超救助戦隊 (Chō Kyūjo Sentai) is translated as “Super Rescue Sentai,” evoking classic tokusatsu titles.

  1. Huh... so in earth there is no mana?
Or its more of a "if there is no mana in the place you go, this will give the mana"? (Talking about the Crystal)

    2. Earth has mana, if not MC would not be able to use any skills. The crystal is just gives a boost to the natural regen

  2. Thanks for the translations. I have been waiting for him to interact with returning heroes ever since it was mentioned in one of the interlude chapters.
