Chapter : Birth of a Goddess?
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
Misuzu’s face went pale as she answered.
“This… it’s a card that summons demons!”
“What!?”
“This is bad! What should I do!?”
She was clearly panicking.
“This white-haired man is an earl-class demon, and the maid, the armored knight, and the cook are all baron-class demons!”
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“I used Appraisal—there’s no mistake!”
While we were talking, the branch manager walked over.
“The monsters from a summoning card are supposed to obey their summoner’s orders. And they can’t harm the summoner. You should try summoning them once, just to confirm.”
He had a point. We could seal the card away and never use it, but if they couldn’t hurt her, they might actually be useful.
“Like the branch manager says—why not summon them once to be sure?”
“…Alright. If you say so, Takuya-san, I’ll try.”
Misuzu gripped the card tightly in her right hand and took a breath.
“—Summon!”
The card flared with light, bursting into motes of glowing particles before vanishing.
In the next moment, the space in front of Misuzu shone brilliantly.
When the light faded, four figures stood there.
The three men knelt on one knee with their heads bowed, while the maid pinched the hem of her skirt and lowered her head as well.
Then, all four stood.
The white-haired man stepped forward.
“It is an honor to meet you, Master. May I have your name?”
“M-Misuzu Nakamori…”
“Then, Lady Misuzu, we humbly ask that you bestow names upon us.”
Misuzu hesitated, thinking for a moment, before speaking.
“Your name is… Bach.”
She turned to the maid.
“You are Aria.”
(Huh? …Did she pick that from Air on the G String by Bach?)
While I was thinking that, she named the remaining two.
The knight was “Dvořák.”
The cook was “Tchaikovsky.”
All composer names.
Just as Misuzu finished naming them, her shoulders suddenly jerked.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” I asked.
“I… I think I just got a Goddess JOB…”
“What!? A goddess!?”
Both the branch manager and I shouted in unison.
Bach began to speak calmly.
“Lady Misuzu, do you know the difference between angels and demons?”
Misuzu shook her head.
“Those who are under the service of God are called angels. Those who have fallen away from God are collectively called demons.”
“But now, Lady Misuzu, by giving us names, you have made us your retainers.”
“In other words, you have become a goddess, and we have returned to being angels who serve you.”
The room went silent for a moment.
“…That’s amazing, Misuzu! You’ve gained a second JOB—and it’s a goddess JOB at that! I’ve worked in this field for years, and I’ve never even heard of such a thing!” the branch manager exclaimed.
Bach bowed deeply.
“If you have any orders for us, please speak, and we shall obey.”
The four of them lowered their heads in unison.
Misuzu really had become… a goddess.
For now, there was nothing we needed them to do, so we told them we’d call them if we required their help.
With that, Misuzu dismissed them.
Their bodies dissolved into light, returning to the form of a card.
A glow gathered in front of Misuzu, and the summoning card reappeared.
She picked it up and carefully placed it into her pouch.
