Chapter : The Twelve Heroes
At the entrance to the Eknis Plateau, thirty adventurers had gathered.
All of them wore white-themed outfits and carried weapons that shimmered faintly with magic.
A female warrior clad in white armor approached a young man with flowing violet hair. The man wore a finely embroidered garment and golden bracelets on both arms. A thick belt cinched his waist, and embedded in it gleamed an unmistakable golden plate—the mark of an S-Rank adventurer.
“Lord Asrom.”
The woman spoke his name—the name of one of the Twelve Heroes.
“There’s no sign of demons or monsters in the area.”
“Seems that way,” Asrom replied.
The young man—Asrom—swept his cold violet gaze across the windswept grasslands.
“For now, let’s send out scouts and have the rest start setting up camp.”
“Is that wise?” The woman tilted her head.
“We have reports that other guilds and parties are after Zeldia too. They might beat us to it.”
“That would be a good thing, wouldn’t it?”
“A… good thing?” She blinked in confusion.
“Yeah. The important part is that Zeldia, one of the Six Demon Stars, gets taken down. Who does it doesn’t matter.”
Asrom smiled softly.
“If someone else kills Zeldia for us, that just makes things easier. And fewer people will have to die.”
“Ah… I-I see…” The woman stared at him, wide-eyed.
“Hah! That’s Asrom for you.” A broad-shouldered man in silver armor let out a hearty laugh.
“You don’t care about the glory of slaying a Six Demon Star. Truly, you’re the real hero here.”
“That’s not true,” Asrom said, shaking his head.
“There are plenty among the Twelve Heroes stronger than I am. They’re the real heroes.”
“I disagree,” the man—Douglas—replied firmly. “A true hero isn’t just strong. They must have a pure heart as well.”
“I feel the same as Douglas,” the woman—Teresa—added.
“I think you’re the perfect hero, Lord Asrom—both strong and kind.”
“You two are far too biased,” Asrom said with a wry shrug.
“Well, if that’s what you think, I’d better live up to your expectations. Starting tomorrow, we’ll put our full effort into finding that hidden village.”
“Yes, sir!”
The members of the Sacred Tree Company answered with voices full of resolve.
