The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills ,Volume 2 - Chapter 34

Chapter:  Unexpected Help

“Heh—what a weak adventurer.”

Suddenly, a voice came from behind.

I turned around and saw a girl who looked about twelve—a High Elf.

Her long silver hair was styled into twin tails, and her pointed ears stuck up sharply. She wore a sky-blue outfit adorned with golden embroidery.

“Sir Silfeel.”

I spoke her name aloud.

Silfeel was an S-rank adventurer and one of the Twelve Heroes. Her strength and beauty had inspired countless bards to write songs about her.

Silfeel’s silver hair swayed as she walked toward Baron Ganock.

“You are… Lady Silfeel?”

The baron’s eyes widened as he looked at her.

“Why… are you here?”

“I just happened to see a familiar face in town.”

Silfeel glanced at me briefly.

“Are you acquainted with this boy?”

“Yes. We’ve worked together before.”

“…I see…”

“By the way, you called Yakumo a weak adventurer, didn’t you?”

“Ah, n-no! That’s not what I meant. He is E-rank, after all.”

Baron Ganock pointed at me.

“He may be E-rank, but his strength is above A-rank.”

“A-rank?!”

“Yes. That’s why we plan for him to become an executive of the Moonlight Guild in the future.”

“An executive of the Moonlight Guild…”

Baron Ganock’s mouth opened and closed wordlessly.

“You said someone like Yakumo can’t be a guarantor. Does that mean you don’t trust the members of the Moonlight Guild?”

“Ah… n-no. That’s not it…”

“Then what?”

Silfeel glared at the baron with her deep green eyes.

Baron Ganock’s legs started trembling slightly.

Though Silfeel looked like a cute girl, everyone knew her strength. She had defeated disaster-class monsters and countless demons. That record had earned her a place among the Twelve Heroes.

Sweat streamed down Baron Ganock’s face.

“I-I didn’t know this boy was a Moonlight Guild executive candidate…”

“So, it’s fine for Yakumo to be the guarantor?”

“Eh? The guarantor?”

“That’s what we were talking about, right?”

“…Yes…”

Baron Ganock twitched his cheeks and shifted his gaze to me.

“If this boy is a candidate for Moonlight Guild executive, then he can be trusted. Ha-ha…”

“Then hurry up and sign the contract, okay?”

“…Y-Yes.”

The baron clenched his fists in frustration, then left as if fleeing.

“Thank you very much.”

I bowed to Silfeel.

“Thanks to you, I could become the guarantor.”

“I didn’t do anything special.”

Silfeel touched her twin tails and straightened her thin chest.

“Besides, it’s true that you have A-rank strength or higher and are trustworthy.”

“But… executive candidate of the Moonlight Guild…”

“That’s true too.”

Silfeel poked my chest with her index finger.

“You’re humble and serious, so you’d handle the behind-the-scenes work well. Plus, I think you’ll become S-rank in the future.”

“S-rank?”

“Yes. Your skills are versatile and allow for many combat styles. If you master them, you’ll be stronger than now. That’s why I recruited you into the Moonlight Guild.”

Silfeel’s deep green eyes fixed on mine.

“So… have you decided to join the Moonlight Guild yet?”

“Uh… not really.”

I forced an awkward smile.

“I’m really grateful to you, Silfeel. But I like my current party.”

“Hmm… you like them, huh?”

Silfeel scratched her head.

“Well, everyone in your party is competent. I could take you all into the Moonlight Guild together.”

“I can’t decide that.”

“The female alchemist leader would decide, right?”

“Yes. Almine is the leader.”

“Almine, huh.”

Silfeel lifted her heel and leaned closer to me.

“…Hey. Is Almine… your lover?”

“No. Not at all.”

I shook my head.

“I’ve never had a lover before.”

“…Oh? Really?”

Her voice brightened.

“That’s fine. I’ve been busy, so I didn’t have time for romance before. But maybe it’s okay now.”

“I see… You’re one of the Twelve Heroes, so you’d probably find someone quickly.”

I said this, and Silfeel went silent.

“Hm? Something wrong?”

“Nothing!”

Silfeel pouted, clearly annoyed.

“Yakumo.”

Director Flora touched my arm.

“Thank you. You’ve saved the orphanage.”

“I just did what anyone from here would do. This place is my home.”

I smiled at Flora.

“The money’s fine too. I even brought the donation today.”

“…I’m sorry. If only I had been able to gather more money.”

“Don’t say that. You’ve worked so hard, Flora.”

I held Flora’s wrinkled hands.

“Anyway, I’ll handle the rent from now on.”

“But the rent has been rising recently.”

“I know. But I’ve started earning more now.”

“…Don’t overdo it. If you die, Lilith and the children would be devastated.”

“Yeah. I don’t want to die yet either.”

“That’s right.”

Silfeel said.

“If you’re going to die, live at least a thousand years first.”

“I’m not a High Elf, though.”

I chuckled wryly.
