Chapter: Plant Dragon
“Attack from the sides!”
Melt shouted.
“First, reduce the number of its tentacles!”
With that, Melt charged at the Plant Dragon from the side. Three tentacles lunged toward him.
“Gale of a Thousand Strikes!”
Melt spun like a tornado, sending the tips of all three tentacles crashing to the ground.
“Gyiieee!”
The Plant Dragon twisted its long neck, trying to bite Melt—but he dodged with lightning speed.
“We’ll attack from the opposite side!”
Greg aimed the tip of his longsword at the Plant Dragon.
“Show this giant the power of the Flame Dragon Squad!”
“Ooooh!”
The squad members began fighting the countless tentacles.
If they didn’t defeat it quickly, more would die.
I charged the Plant Dragon head-on. Pulling out the darkness-infused paper from my pocket…
I visualized the magic formula in my mind. Hundreds of sheets layered together, forming a massive spear above me. Over five meters long, its surface shimmered with a blue-purple glow.
“Giant Spear: Dark Moon!”
The spear lunged, piercing the Plant Dragon’s chest.
“Gyiieee!”
The dragon shrieked, lifting its front legs. At the same time, I moved to its flank.
From my pocket, I released ten Origami Birds I had folded—paper birds the size of a palm that obeyed my will. They dove at the dragon’s head one after another. Explosions rang out as its sharp teeth fell to the ground.
Nearby, Albert and the others stared at me, mouths agape.
“Albert! Now’s our chance!”
“…Ah, right!”
Albert snapped back to reality.
“Dazzle, Camilla! Let’s aim for its hind legs!”
The three of them charged. The Plant Dragon thrashed, still pierced by my Giant Spear: Dark Moon.
Damn, it’s stubborn.
I bit down hard as I slashed incoming tentacles with my Magic-Eating Dagger.
The Plant Dragon had three hearts, and their locations were difficult to pinpoint. That made it tough to kill. Ideally, the head should go first—but the tentacles kept getting in the way.
“Yakumo!”
Kinako pressed against me.
“I’ll stop its movement.”
“Can you?”
“The number of tentacles is down, and I can use a big move. But I can only freeze it for an instant. That’s your chance—finish it then!”
“…Understood.”
I moved to a blind spot. Seeing my position, Kinako charged at the Plant Dragon from the side. Two tentacles aimed for him—but Melt cut them off.
“Good, Melt!”
Kinako took a deep breath, legs wide.
“Paw Ripple Strike!”
He struck the dragon with his right paw. Ripples spread across the yellow-green scales—but the dragon didn’t stop.
“Then one more!”
Kinako twisted and hit with his left paw.
“Gyu…”
The Plant Dragon froze.
I quickly formed a stair-like platform from paper. Running up, I infused the Magic-Eating Dagger with mana, transforming the blade into a long, thick sword-like weapon.
Leaping from the top step, I brought the dagger down. The blade cut deep into the Plant Dragon’s neck, tilting its massive head.
It tried to bite me, spraying yellow ichor.
Still moving?!
I made another platform and leapt onto it, twisting my upper body while drawing a small red box from my magical pocket. The box had been folded over a thousand times from paper large enough to cover a house.
“Funeral Bloom!”
The floating red box shot into the dragon’s mouth—and burst open. It unfolded into a massive red rose, its petals shredding the dragon’s head. Flesh flew in all directions, and where its head had been, a paper flower bloomed.
Seconds later, the Plant Dragon’s massive body toppled sideways.
Yes! It’s down.
I exhaled deeply, staring at the now motionless beast.
Funeral Bloom was a technique designed for gigantic monsters. The intricately folded paper blooms into a rose, the petal edges sharpened like blades to cut the target.
Normally, paper could never withstand this many folds, but with the right magic, the technique worked. And it had versatility—after all, paper folded forty-two times could theoretically reach the moon.
The adventurers around me stared in awe.
They were amazed because they had never seen a technique like this bring down a Plant Dragon.
