Chapter : The Cave, Part 3
“Everyone, listen up!”
Melt’s voice rang out loud and clear, calling all the adventurers together.
“From here on, we’re going to split up and search for another exit.”
“Another exit? You mean there is one?”
A C-rank adventurer raised the question.
“We don’t know for sure,” Melt replied firmly. “But at this point, finding another way out is our only option!”
Her tone was sharp and decisive.
“This cave is vast and runs deep. There’s a chance we’ll find an alternate exit. However…”
“However what?”
“Rugal said, ‘The real terror begins now.’ We should assume there are more traps ahead.”
Those words froze the expressions of the gathered adventurers.
“That’s why the lower-ranked parties will move together with members of the Flame Dragon Company.”
“Yeah, that’s for the best. We’ve got E and even F-rank adventurers here, after all.”
“Party leaders, gather over at Greg’s position.”
Greg raised his right hand, and the party leaders converged around him.
Ten minutes later—
“It looks like the four of us will be moving together,” Arumine announced.
“With Kinako here as an A-rank, and me as a C-rank alchemist, we’re in good shape.”
“Pilln is practically S-rank, even if I’m officially D-rank,” Pilln added, puffing out her flat chest with pride.
“You’re strong, Pilln, but ‘practically S-rank’ is a bit much,” Arumine retorted before continuing.
“Melt-san is counting on us, you know. She even bowed her head, asking us to find an exit.”
“An exit, huh…”
I glanced around at the thirty-plus holes in the chamber walls.
Searching them all was going to be a nightmare. But we didn’t have a choice—our food and water wouldn’t last forever.
One by one, the adventurers began disappearing into the holes.
“Alright then, let’s get moving too.”
Arumine pointed toward an opening on the right.
Inside, the tunnel was narrow and twisting, cloaked in darkness.
From her magic pouch, Arumine pulled out a sphere about the size of a candy. With a chant, the orb floated up and bathed us in a warm, pale yellow light.
“A magic tool for illumination?” I asked.
She nodded. “Yep. I made it myself. Bright, long-lasting—perfect for dungeon dives. If I sold it, it’d fetch at least a gold coin.”
“That much?”
“Well, I am an advanced alchemist, after all.”
Arumine puffed her chest with pride.
“Indeed! Arumine is amazing!” Pilln chimed in, puffing out her own chest in solidarity.
“She even invented that shower flask!”
“Wait, that was you?” I asked, surprised. “Lots of people in the Holy Sword Company use those.”
“That’s right! It’s super popular with female adventurers. Pilln has one too! But there are some magic tools Arumine won’t give me!”
“Huh? Like what?”
“The one that makes your chest bigger! That’s why Arumine’s so well-endowed!”
“I did NOT make such a thing!”
Arumine’s face flushed scarlet as she gave Pilln a solid whack on the head.
“Uuugh…”
Pilln puffed out her cheeks.
“But without magic tools, yours wouldn’t be that big!”
“They would! They grow just fine on their own!”
Arumine crossed her arms over her chest and glared.
“And stop saying weird stuff in front of Yakumo-kun!”
“Why only Yakumo?”
“...Anyway, we’re done talking about this!”
Grabbing Pilln by the hand, Arumine marched off at a brisk pace.
