Chapter : Information
The next morning, when I woke up, the members of the Flame Dragon Company were huddled together, talking in excited voices.
“What’s going on?”
I turned to Almine, who was standing nearby.
“They found the temple,” she said.
“Wait, seriously?”
“Yeah. A party that returned early this morning reported finding a cave that leads to it.”
“That’s great news.”
I got to my feet and glanced toward Melt, who stood a few dozen meters away, calmly issuing orders to the Flame Dragon Company members gathered around him.
“Looks like we’d better get ready too.”
“Mm-hm. I’ll wake up Piln and Kinako,” Almine said, heading toward the two still sleeping nearby.
“Piln, wake up,” I said, poking her cheek with my finger. Her head was the only thing sticking out of her pink sleeping bag.
“...It’s fine... I can still eat... more sausages...” she mumbled in her sleep, trying to bite my finger.
“My finger’s not a sausage!”
I yanked my hand back just in time. Her sharp little teeth snapped together with an audible click-click. The sound must’ve stirred Kinako, because she slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes with her paws.
“Oh, you’re up. Morning,” I greeted her.
“...Mm. Guess I’ll start the day with a drink,” she muttered with a yawn.
“Uh, no. No drinking in the morning. That’s terrible for your health,” I said, scratching my head.
Honestly, both Piln and Kinako are strong adventurers, but they sure have a knack for saying things that make me want to scold them...
While I was putting away my sleeping bag, Dazzle from the Holy Sword Company strolled over with that smug grin of his.
“Finally awake, huh, Yakumo?” he said, running his tongue across his thin lips in a rather unsettling way.
“Must be nice, sleeping in. We’ve been up all night.”
“All night?”
“Yeah. We found the Dolls’ temple, you know. Just reported it to the Flame Dragon guys a minute ago. Heh.”
He puffed out his chest like he’d just saved the world.
“You guys were the ones who found it?”
“Well, technically, I did. Spotted some cultists in the forest and tailed them. Turns out there’s an entrance in a pile of rocks. Bingo.”
“How did you know it was the temple?” I asked.
“They were talking about it. Kept saying, ‘We must never let anyone find out about the temple inside this cave.’ Pretty helpful of them, right?”
“They actually said that?”
“Yep. Lucky for me, I’ve got the combat skill 【Stealth】. They didn’t even notice I was there,” Dazzle said, letting his tongue loll out in a way that made me want to step back a little.
“After that, I regrouped with Albel and the others, and here we are.”
“Sounds like a lot of work.”
“Not really. Compared to you guys nabbing a few cultists, my accomplishment’s on another level.”
“I think finding the temple is pretty amazing, honestly,” I said sincerely.
His grin widened even further.
“You should be grateful. Thanks to me, you don’t have to wander the woods like clueless kids anymore.”
“Hey! Dazzle!”
Albel’s voice rang out from a distance.
“Melt wants us to lead the way to the temple. Says we’re taking point.”
“Got it! Be right there!”
Dazzle clapped me on the shoulder.
“Yakumo, you and your little party can just follow behind. Not like anyone but that A-rank catgirl of yours will be useful in a fight anyway. Heh-heh!”
With a high-pitched laugh, he sauntered off.
