Chapter : Clash of the Strong
“You’re first!”
Daglud launched an attack at Kinako. Moving faster than before, he slipped to her flank and lashed out with a kick.
“Guh…!”
Kinako blocked it with the paw of her left hand, but the force sent her flying sideways.
“Kinako!”
Just as I tried to run to her, one of the Metallic Dolls grabbed my wrist. With incredible strength, it yanked me off my feet and slammed me into the ground.
“Guh… ngh…”
Rolling over, I narrowly avoided the doll’s follow-up strike.
It hurt, but I could still fight—thanks to the magic-infused clothes Arumine made for me.
Kneeling, I channeled mana into the Demon-Eater Dagger. The pale blue blade extended and pierced the doll beneath its neck. A sound like shattering glass echoed as the Metallic Doll collapsed.
“Vvv… vvv…”
The other doll thrust its long arm straight out, aiming its pointed fingers right at my eyes.
I ducked and slashed at its left knee with the Demon-Eater Dagger. The doll staggered and collapsed.
Before it could get up, I stabbed the dagger right under its neck.
“V… V…”
Both dolls emitted a clicking sound.
I summoned a sticky paper and wrapped it around their bodies.
Then—boom—a small explosion puffed out, the paper ballooning like a bubble for an instant.
Yes! Now I can go help Kinako!
I scanned the battlefield—Kinako was still fighting Daglud in front of a massive pillar.
Daglud was pummeling her with punches, expertly avoiding her paw swipes.
He’s gotten stronger and faster… Must be the effect of that creepy armor.
“You’re too slow, beastkin!”
Daglud’s kick landed squarely in Kinako’s stomach.
“Urgh…”
Her face contorted in pain, and her upper body swayed.
I bit down hard and dashed forward.
If I can just strike his neck from behind, that armor won’t matter!
When I got within five meters, the embedded eyeballs on Daglud’s armor all turned toward me.
He spun around, thrusting his left hand forward—and a red-black fireball shot from his palm.
I raised the Demon-Eater Dagger and deflected it. Flames scattered around us in searing arcs.
“So you want to die first.”
Daglud suddenly appeared in front of me, his right fist lunging forward. He was faster than I expected—I couldn’t react in time.
His punch slammed into my chest.
The impact sent my body flying through the air.
Ugh… That was just a punch? Fighting him head-on is a bad idea.
I quickly manifested nine sheets of paper in front of him.
“Tricks won’t save you.”
Daglud shredded the paper with his claws. I used that opening to put distance between us.
“Trying to run, are you? Then I’ll use this.”
Daglud conjured a purple crystal orb from his palm and slammed it into the ground.
A swirl of violet smoke burst out, and with it appeared a massive dragon.
It had black scales and golden talons.
“A Dark Dragon! Kill the humans!”
Daglud commanded.
“GWROOAAARRR!”
The Dark Dragon shook its massive body and charged toward me.
A dragon now!? Seriously!?
I checked on the others—they were still fighting skeleton soldiers.
I can’t let this thing get near Arumine and the rest. I need to lure it away.
“Wind Shuriken!”
I conjured dozens of paper shuriken and hurled them at the dragon. They embedded in its black scales, but didn’t seem to deal much damage.
That’s fine—as long as I’ve got its attention.
The dragon locked onto me and gave chase.
Running, I focused my mind and checked my mana reserves.
About 300,000 left… and I’m nearly out of paper too. This is bad.
For now, I just need to lead it away from everyone…
A skeleton soldier suddenly stepped into my path.
I decapitated it with the Demon-Eater Dagger—but its headless body threw aside its sword and clung to me.
“Damn—!”
I used both elbows to wrench it off.
In that few seconds, the Dark Dragon had closed the distance.
“GWROAAAH!”
Its throat swelled.
It’s going to breathe fire.
If that’s the case—time to use my trump card.
But then—
I saw her—running in from behind the dragon.
That silver hair—it’s Sylphiel!?
Sylphiel vaulted onto the Dark Dragon’s back, sprinting along its spine.
The dragon twisted its neck and spewed black flames, but Sylphiel leapt high, dodging in midair.
“You’re too slow to notice!”
Spinning her body, Sylphiel swung the Twinlight Sovereign blade. Black blood sprayed from the dragon’s neck.
“Fujin Zanku!”
As she landed on its back, Sylphiel hurled the Twinlight Sovereign forward. The blade spun at lightning speed, slicing clean through the dragon’s neck.
The massive head crashed to the ground, and the blade boomeranged back into her hand.
The dragon’s massive body teetered—and collapsed onto its side.
