Takatsugi-kun Buys Kudou-kun’s Equipment
After buying my own equipment, I headed over to check on Kudou.
…He was wearing a full suit of metal armor.
It looked like the kind of armor a Western knight would wear.
His arms, legs, and torso were all covered in blocky, metallic plates.
And in his left hand, he held a massive shield.
He looked more like a robot from an anime than an explorer.
“Takatsugi! Check it out—don’t I look awesome in this armor? I look just like a robot, right?” Kudou shouted excitedly.
Is he stupid? No, seriously—what kind of grown man gets excited over looking like a robot?
What is he, a grade schooler?
“By the way, Kudou… do you actually have any money?” I asked.
“Nah, I don’t have a single yen on me,” he replied without a hint of shame.
So he was planning to buy this without a dime in his pocket?
Unbelievable. What a moron.
But… without Kudou, I wouldn’t be able to explore on my own.
I had no choice.
Reluctantly, I decided to buy it for him.
This way, I could make sure he owed me.
Besides, I plan to ditch him once I get into a prestigious university anyway.
Consider this a severance gift.
Until then, he better be useful to me!
After paying, Kudou and I decided to go test ourselves a bit.
According to the dungeon map, the first floor was a narrow path through a grassy field. Both sides of the path were filled with nothing but slimes.
Slimes are supposedly resistant to physical attacks, but with my powerful axe, I should be able to take them down in one hit.
With Kudou by my side, I began walking toward the dungeon entrance.
The clanking of Kudou’s metal armor was loud.
His greatshield seemed heavy too—he kept lowering the bottom edge to the floor like it was a cane with every step.
Eventually, we got yelled at by an Explorer Association staff member.
“Don’t scratch the floor!”
…Because of Kudou, even I—the party leader—got scolded.
My reputation’s gonna take a hit because of him.
Get it together, Kudou!
Left with no other option, we returned to the shop and had a rubber pad fitted to the bottom of his shield as an add-on.
Which cost extra.
Naturally, I paid for it!
Kudou! Learn to manage your money!
If he has it, he spends it—no thought at all.
He doesn’t even have a single yen in savings. What an idiot.
And so, we once again headed for the dungeon entrance.
It was finally time for some slime hunting!
This is where I become Nakamori-san’s hero.
This is the first step on my path to greatness.
I could barely contain my excitement.
I braced myself.
If I didn’t, the weight of the axe would throw me off balance again.
But it’s fine! I’ll level up in no time—this is only temporary!
We showed our explorer cards to the staff at the dungeon gate and took our first step into the dungeon.
Translator’s Note:
-
Greatshield dragging scene: This is a comedic exaggeration common in RPG-themed stories where beginners treat high-tier gear like toys. Kudou's behavior parodies new players who get excited about aesthetics over practicality.
-
Severance gift (手切れ金): This term is often used in a breakup or farewell context—here, Takatsugi is being overly dramatic about their "inevitable split," reinforcing his comical arrogance.
