The Branch Manager is Busy ②
Construction to install scaffolding on the left-side wall began.
After assembling the scaffolding near the left wall, we had to be careful that no one climbed up and disturbed the site before our investigation.
So, while we were discussing measures like deploying security guards, the phone rang.
It was the Research Institute of the Exploration Guild.
They said they had seen the report I wrote and wanted to join the investigation.
They believed the cactus-like plant might be a new species and wanted to accompany us for the survey.
Since that area was safe, they wouldn’t be a burden.
And if it really was a new species with valuable materials, it would benefit the branch.
I agreed to their participation.
The next call came from the executive director.
He had apparently read my report.
The executive director didn’t care about the left-side wall at all and kept talking only about the right-side wall.
He said there might be more treasure chests, and selling those would bring profits to the Exploration Guild.
He insisted that the magic stone of the lich currently in my possession, taken from Takuya, should be auctioned off for a higher price.
It was all about money.
When I said, “Because it’s dangerous, it’s difficult to start the investigation until the members are ready,” he pressured me, “Hurry up! Don’t dawdle!”
I wanted to say, “I want to do it as soon as possible too!”
But I couldn’t say that to the executive.
If I pushed too hard, an unexpected disaster might occur.
There was still time.
I tried to delay as much as possible.
Then the executive said he would dispatch two staff members from headquarters who had the job class of priest.
Honestly, that was a relief.
Priests from headquarters should be quite high level.
Since the executive had compromised this much, I judged that further delay was impossible and told him I would investigate as soon as possible.
The day before investigating the left-side wall, the Research Institute staff came to greet us.
I explained the detailed schedule to them.
They had no questions, so we ended the meeting for the day.
I also went home without overtime to prepare for tomorrow.
Ah, I’m tired.
