Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 87

Episode 87 – The Final Battle Begins, Part 2

“Are you really sure you’re okay?”

“Yes. It’s all thanks to your healing, Iori-kun.”

As we climbed the frozen staircase, I glanced behind me to check on Kyori as she followed close.

Thanks to the full effects of the Healing Magic, her complexion was noticeably better than when we first met.

“…Also, I’m sorry. For dragging you into this mess.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m the one who decided to get involved.”

“Hearing you say that helps a lot. Um, Iori-kun… why did you—”

Just as she began to ask something, a loud crack rang out from behind us.

“Oh, come on… you’ve gotta be kidding me!?”

The next sound was something slamming hard against the floor.

I looked down to see the branches thrashing violently, trying to break through the ice I had created with Freezing Magic.

“Take my hand!”
“Y-Yes!”

I grabbed Kyori’s hand and, using a low-output Wind Magic, leapt up the frozen steps in a single powerful burst.

Behind us, more branches were bursting from the shattered ice, extending countless tube-like tendrils toward us.

“Raaaahhhh!!”

Clutching Kyori tightly, I used another low-power Wind Magic burst to launch us skyward.

We soared hundreds of meters through the air—and finally plunged straight into the crevice at the center of the massive trunk.

“Haaah… haaah… Damn, that took a lot out of me…”

My vision nearly went black, but I gritted my teeth and forced myself to stay conscious as I turned to Kyori.

“You alright, Kyori?”

“Ah, yes! I’m totally fine!”

“Good. And sorry about grabbing you so suddenly.”

“N-No! Please don’t worry about it at all!”

Her face flushed, and she quickly covered it with her arm.

…I wasn’t entirely sure what that meant, but at least she seemed okay.

“…Alright.”

Catching my breath, I stood and began scanning the area with Kyori.

There was no sign of anyone else inside the crevice. The only things of note were what looked like rails, stretching out in all directions like a spiderweb.

It seemed we’d have to search on foot.

“Just to be sure—what kind of tactics does Kuon Genji usually use?”

“…He tends to rely on explosive-type shikigami and brute force. But in this situation, I honestly have no idea what he might do.”

Figures.

Which meant the best thing we could do right now was prepare for anything.

Time to top up my strength.

(Water Magic.)

I summoned a small, greenish orb of liquid, about the size of my palm.

Instantly, a wave of nausea and a stabbing headache hit me like a truck.

“Ugh…!”
“Iori-kun!?”
“I-I’m fine. Don’t worry…”

I waved Kyori off, trying not to alarm her, then steeled myself and gulped down the green orb.

(Status.)

That last Water Magic must’ve pushed my MP almost to zero.

It wasn’t a full recovery, but regaining nearly half of my MP at this stage was more than good enough.

(Not to mention, it was a gamble whether it’d even work.)

After using Water Magic so many times, I’d started to suspect something.

Even though it was called Water Magic, maybe it could actually generate any kind of liquid.

Testing this theory over and over while crafting modified drones, I finally confirmed it—and tried creating a new liquid:

A completely fictional substance—an MP Recovery Potion.

That green orb I just drank? That was it.

“Um… what was that, just now?”

“Ah, something like a personal universal elixir. Anyway, let’s focus on finding that figure.”

“…Right.”

Kyori still looked a bit anxious, but I brushed it off with a casual wave and closed my Status window.

(Looks like I can fire off a few flashy Skills again. But… this fatigue isn’t going away. Guess that’s the difference from leveling up and recovering MP the normal way.)

…Maybe I should cast Healing Magic on myself as a precaution.

Just as I was thinking that, Kyori suddenly broke into a sprint.

“What’s wrong? Did you spot him?”

“No. But I saw a fast-moving orb… or something like that.”

Orb?

I was about to ask for clarification when I sensed something barreling toward us from behind with a thunderous roar.

(Freezing Magic!)

I immediately summoned a wall of ice and turned slowly, cautiously.

“Is this what you saw, Kyori?”

“I think so, yes.”

Looking at the thing she’d spotted, I saw a sphere formed by tightly entwined branches and roots.

Inside, it seemed to be storing a large quantity of red liquid.

(Appraisal.)

Target: Rhizome-Type Spiritual Power Delivery Ritual
Effect: Transports energy needed for enhancement through the tree’s inner pathways to a designated target deep within.
The route is fixed for each orb.
Note: Current target is Kuon Genji.
Orb is currently immobilized by Freezing Magic.

Well, now that’s some useful info.

If that’s how it works, then…

“Did you figure something out?”

“Yeah, a couple of things. By the way, Kyori—how do you feel about roller coasters?”

“…Huh?”

Translator’s Notes:

  • MP Recovery Potion via Water Magic: A clever worldbuilding twist. Iori's Water Magic isn’t limited to just water—it can generate custom liquids, allowing him to essentially craft potions from nothing.

  • Rhizome-Type Ritual: Rootlike spiritual mechanisms used to siphon and transfer energy—a metaphor for how Kuon Genji draws power from others.

  • Jet coaster (ジェットコースター): The Japanese term often implies something sudden or intense. Iori's asking Kyori if she’s ready for a wild ride.
