The Paper User: Exiled for a ‘Trash Skill,’ Awakens True Power and Rises with Two Unique Skills - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 : Encounter 3

“Ah, there’s another reason, too.”

Armine continued speaking.

“At the bottom floor of the Great Labyrinth of Chaos, there’s said to be a golden castle. In its treasure vault lies the ‘Celestial Dragon’s Orb,’ a treasure so coveted that even alchemists who’ve sold their souls to evil gods want it. With that, alchemists could do anything.”

“That sounds like an incredible item.”

“There are also national treasure-level weapons and armor, elixirs of immortality and youth, and books that contain all the laws of the world, plus gems that seal away evil gods.”

Armine leaned in toward me, excited.

“Hearing that, you’d want to go into the Great Labyrinth of Chaos too, right, Yakumo-kun?”

“Yeah. I’d like to read the book that contains all the laws of the world.”

“See? And you’d get tons of money, too. Enough to build a mansion in the capital.”

“A mansion, huh? I’m not so sure about a big house... cleaning would be a pain.”

Armine laughed softly.

“You really care about that, huh?”

“So, Yakumo-kun, what do you want to do?”

I brought my hand to my mouth and thought for a moment.

“...Donate to the orphanage.”

“Donate to the orphanage?”

“I grew up in an orphanage.”

Clutching the gold coin Armine gave me, I continued.

“I was picked up by Director Flora after being abandoned in front of the orphanage. She made nutritious soup for me every day. When I got sick, she sold her precious hairpin to call a magic doctor. She was the one who taught me words and studying. So I want to repay her kindness.”

“…Repay kindness, huh.”

“Yeah. I want to earn money as an adventurer and donate a lot. That orphanage is like my home.”

“…Hmmm. You’re kind, Yakumo-kun.”

Armine looked at me quietly.

“Then joining my party might not be a bad choice for you, either. It’s risky, but the rewards are great.”

“The rewards are great... huh.”

“Yeah. To qualify for entering the Great Labyrinth of Chaos, you need lots of achievements. That means taking on high-risk jobs, which pay well.”

“Yeah... that makes sense.”

I met Armine’s gaze.

Armine gave me a gold coin. It was a significant amount, even as thanks for saving her life.

More than that, she recognized me as trustworthy—even though I had been expelled from the Holy Sword Guild.

“Alright. I’ll join your party. I was looking for one anyway.”

“Yes! Thank you!”

Armine squeezed my hand tightly.

“Now, let’s take your measurements right away.”

“Huh? Measurements?”

“Yeah. We’ll be taking on lots of dangerous missions. We need to boost your defense as much as possible.”

“You’re going to make clothes for me?”

“Right. Clothes that reduce magic and physical damage.”

Armine picked up a measuring tape and materials from the shelf.

“Since we’re at it, I might as well use some ‘Earth Dragon Bone Powder.’ If I knead that into the fabric, your magic resistance will skyrocket.”

“Wait, isn’t ‘Earth Dragon Bone Powder’ a rare material? I don’t have much money.”

“Don’t worry about money. This is an investment.”

“Well… thanks, I guess.”

I watched Armine happily measuring me.

I never thought I’d get into a party like this. But maybe it’s good luck.

It’s only been a day since we met, but Armine seems like someone I can trust.
