Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 67

Chapter 67 – Each of Their Endings

—Side: Kato Masayoshi

"Why… why is this happening!?"

In a high-security detention facility built deep in the remote mountains—far from any human settlement—
Kato Masayoshi was in a state of near-madness, waving his hand over a drinking cup over and over again.

His Skills—【Blacksmithing Technique】 and 【Design】—when used together, should have allowed him to transform that cup into an escape tool.

That was how it was supposed to work.

And yet, no matter how many minutes, no—hours—he spent trying, the cup remained just that: a plain old cup.

"No! No no no! I don’t want to go back to being some background nobody!"

Masayoshi screamed. He kept screaming.
But no matter how loudly he shouted, the cup didn’t change.
His physical strength had also reverted to what a normal teenager his age should have.

Even so, he kept denying it. Kept yelling.

That he was special. That he was a chosen Hero.

But his pitiful cries reached no one’s ears, and echoed endlessly into the void.

—Side: Alicia

"Managing the cover story and wiping the memories of all involved was a huge hassle, but HQ seems pleased with the results."

In the corner of a fancy café near the station, a man in a suit cheerfully shoveled an outrageously expensive piece of cake into his mouth.

—Even if he’s technically my superior, why do I have to have tea with this guy?

A girl, codenamed Alicia, frowned slightly as she sipped her tea.

"Oh? You stopped eating? Don’t worry, everything’s on me today. Order as much as you like."
"That’s not the point… ahh, forget it."

Giving up on resisting, Alicia cut into the cheesecake and took a bite.
It cost nearly 2000 yen per plate—and the taste was exceptional.
She had to resist letting her face relax in satisfaction.

Watching her, the man who called himself Hirata gave a sly smile and finally pulled some documents out of his bag.

"First, about Kato Masayoshi. He was thought to have died in that so-called gas explosion incident."
"…But in truth, he survived—and used supernatural powers to commit abnormal crimes."
"Exactly. Thanks to him, our entire Organization ended up like a hornet’s nest."

Hirata spoke as if it were someone else’s problem, finishing off the last of his chocolate cake.

"So, should we change our approach toward the sole survivor of that incident?"
"No need. Just keep up the usual surveillance and protection."

After saying that, Hirata flagged down a waiter and ordered another obscenely priced dessert.
Alicia rolled her eyes at his casual attitude and steadied herself with another sip of tea.

"Can I ask why that decision was made?"
"Because his power has far exceeded what we can manage. That reason alone should be enough."
"…True. I can already picture it—HQ giving a 'terminate on sight' order, only for us to get wiped out and be forced to surrender to him in tatters."

A shiver ran through Alicia’s spine at the thought.

Right then, the waiter returned with the new cake. Hirata eagerly dug in with a fork.

Alicia sighed at his behavior but remained composed.

"Alright, enough small talk. Let’s get to the real topic."
"!"

Finally, Alicia sat up straighter, eyes fixed on the man known as Hirata.

"Thanks to this incident, we’ve successfully acquired the first technology and materials of otherworldly origin in history. HQ is thrilled."
"As such, they’ve approved your promotion to Class-3 Supervisor."

Hirata respectfully handed over what looked like a semi-transparent keycard.

"With this, you’ll be able to access more archives."
"Noted. I’ll make good use of it."

After confirming the card’s contents, Alicia stood up.

"If possible, we’d be grateful if you continued working for the country—and our Organization."
"…That’s my intention."

With those parting words, Alicia left the café.

On her face was a look of firm resolve—as if she’d accepted that there was no turning back.

—Side: Iori Osamu

"Hey, can you do the dishes?"
"Got it."

After dinner, Kana quickly disappeared into her room.

"Phew…"

I let out a breath and turned on the TV.

“And now, an update on the large-scale child abduction incident. In the early hours of ████, a drifting tanker was discovered by a Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel. When they boarded due to a lack of response, they found a large number of children on board…”

The news was still covering that case in depth.

Online, it was already being treated as some kind of bizarre mystery, with conspiracy theories flying—especially since only children had been found aboard.

But no one would ever guess the truth:

“A returnee from another world used powers akin to magic to kidnap dozens of children.”

“We already have a cover story, so go ahead and do whatever you want.”

That’s what Alicia had said before the raid.
I hadn’t expected them to go this far though.

…Right. There was still that I had to take care of.

I activated my 【Item Box】 and pulled out the jade-green Otherworld Crystal—the Ikaishi.

"Appraise."

Target: Otherworld Crystal (Ikaishi)
Status: Good
Note: Extracts mana from another world to substitute for the owner’s MP during Skill activation.
If lost, the original owner will be unable to activate Skills, and any active Skills will be nullified.
Current Owner: None

After successfully landing the base safely, I stashed this crystal in my Item Box.
But in doing so, it looks like Kato was stripped of his ownership.

And now this damn thing won’t recognize anyone as its new owner.

Alicia told me, “What you do with it is entirely up to you.”
But still—what should I do?

…I mean, keeping it serves no purpose.
It’s just wasting space in my Item Box.

Maybe I should just destroy it and be done with it?

As I stared at the crystal, I felt the whole thing becoming too much of a hassle.
So I placed a tissue on the desk, and with a little force—smashed the crystal to pieces.

Alright! One less thing to worry about!

Now I could focus on more important matters… like how I was going to spend the last bit of summer vacation!

Just as I was heading to the kitchen to wash the dishes—

“Skills 【Blacksmithing Technique】 and 【Design】 have been added to your Skill List.”

Huh?

Translator’s Notes:

  • Kato Masayoshi — Former self-proclaimed Hero, now stripped of power and abandoned in a secret prison. His descent into madness is symbolized by his inability to use once-powerful Skills.

  • Alicia — A government-affiliated agent with increasing clearance and access. Her loyalty appears conditional, though she’s committed to her role.

  • Hirata — Possibly a senior handler or overseer figure with significant authority but an aloof personality.

  • Ikaishi (異界水晶) — A critical plot artifact that channels magic from another world. Ownership mechanics appear to directly influence Skill functionality.

  • The “class” system within the Organization and mention of otherworldly tech/materials hint at larger geopolitical implications.

  1. I'm guessing the lower caste kids in the other world are going to come back every now and then so Iori can defeat them and steal their skills.

    1. I suspect the reason for it is to "weaken the otherworld heroes' potential" since blacksmithing plus a modern brain of a child is quite frightening to old ages people, dispose the good(skill) naive ones and throw them away from their own planet~

Of course, it's from the demons' side~
