Chapter 60 – I Ended Up Fighting a Hero, Part 2
"Didn't you know? Going giant is basically a death flag."
"You dare mock me!? I, the one honored with the name Red by the Hero-sama, Red Riser, and my God Tyranno-O!?"
Looks like the so-called God Tyranno-O has pretty sharp hearing.
The massive red dinosaur-shaped mech let out a furious roar and opened its huge jaws to bite me in half.
(Ice Magic)
In response, I cast Ice Magic to create a pillar of ice, jamming it between the mech’s jaws to keep them from closing.
"Like that's gonna work!?"
The red dino-mech spewed scorching flames from its mouth, melting the ice pillar as it cranked up the heat in an attempt to incinerate me to ash.
Then—
"Guh!?"
I summoned an Ice Sword Mace, swung it hard at the mech’s lower jaw, and knocked its head back. At that exact moment, the still-unmelted ice pillar fell into its open mouth and smashed the flame emitter.
"No—!"
Fortunately, the pillar also managed to hit what must have been a very sensitive spot.
"GYAAAAAOOOHHH!!"
Sparks burst from the mech’s deep crimson armor, lightning-like arcs ripping through its internal parts and discharging outwards.
With a deafening roar that sounded like a death cry, its massive head exploded into shrapnel.
"So that’s where you were piloting from."
"Damn it!"
I guided my flyboard closer to the mech. With its head gone, I could now clearly see into the exposed torso — and inside, gripping the controls, was the red-suited hero.
Depth… maybe 10 meters or so?
If I put enough force into it, I might be able to break through and pull him out.
"You think crushing the head is enough!?"
"Whoa!"
The red hero violently jerked the control sticks, trying to shake me off the mech.
(Tch, fine.)
I leapt back onto my flyboard, and just in time — the beam cannon mounted on one of the mech’s wings scorched the spot I had just been standing on.
"UOOOOHHHHH!!"
At this point, the mech was undeniably in full-on rampage mode.
Its arms, legs, wings — every cannon and missile launcher on it was blasting in all directions, trying to shoot me down.
Now what?
I could drag this out into a battle of attrition, but if we kept fighting outside like this, reinforcements from the base might show up.
Worse, the mech might have unlimited energy or even teleport-supplied ammo.
"...No point overthinking it."
I used Ice Magic again, creating multiple flyboards as shields and arranging them in front of me. Then I charged headfirst into the mech’s blind spot.
"Ugh… lost more than I expected."
As expected, despite firing wildly, the mech’s barrage had destroyed several of the flyboards.
Still, now I was close enough to put this berserker down for good.
"Water Magic!"
I unleashed a whip-like stream of slime and wrapped it tightly around the mech’s leg.
"...Whew, got a good grip."
Activating Wind Magic, I spun myself for rotational force and whipped the mech as hard as I could.
The mech began spinning faster and faster with a whooshing sound, and eventually, its cannons and missile launchers fell silent.
"St-stop—!"
"TAKE THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!!"
I released the whip, aiming carefully so the mech would crash right above the slime room I had used to restrain the others.
The spinning God Tyranno-O slammed into the airborne fortress, scraping and screeching as it plummeted downward.
"Hiiiiiieeeeeee!!?"
So much for the big talk. The red hero — Red Riser — now let out a thoroughly pathetic scream.
"Relax. I’m not gonna let you fall to your death."
I manipulated the slime in the room to cushion the mech and absorb the impact, adjusting it so the mech came to rest against the wall.
Peeking into the cockpit through where the mech’s head used to be, I found the red-suited hero unconscious.
"...No sign of reinforcements?"
Looks like this was the end of it.
I dragged Red Riser out of the mech and used Spatial Transfer Magic to teleport him and the other four restrained hero suits to Safehouse No. 6.
Lastly, I stored the half-destroyed God Tyranno-O into my Item Box and evacuated the floating fortress.
◇◇◇
"Welcome back. You really went all out, didn’t you?"
Back at Safehouse No. 6, Alicia commented dryly as she glanced over the wrecked hero suits now restrained by slime.
"...Yeah, maybe I overdid it a bit. By the way, all those explosions up there—did it cause any trouble down on the surface?"
"Relax. It’s been raining nonstop outside. No one noticed a thing."
"Phew, that’s good to hear."
We’d been fighting at 20,000 meters — well above the clouds. I hadn’t realized the storm had provided natural cover.
"Still… explosions? What the hell were you doing up there?"
"I'll fill you in later. So—are they unconscious?"
"Who knows? Either they took enough damage that not even those weird suits could protect them… or they’re just playing dead, waiting for us to let our guard down. We won’t know until we get those suits off."
That’s when I noticed Alicia was standing near the window, ready to bolt at a moment’s notice.
(In that case, better remove the helmets without touching them directly.)
I manipulated the slime restraining the pink hero suit — Rose Pink Baroness — and tried to take off her helmet.
(…Can I even remove this thing?)
I noticed an antenna-like device on the side, common to all the suits. When I removed it, I found a small button underneath.
I pressed it—and the suit turned transparent, revealing the person inside.
"Whoa!?"
"My, my."
The one inside was a girl, clearly younger than me, completely unconscious. And honestly, her outfit was… basically underwear. I really didn’t know where to look.
"Hey. Doesn’t she look familiar?"
"Familiar?"
Trying not to glance at her body, I looked at her face carefully.
"Ah."
"You realized?"
"Y-yeah."
Even in her unconscious state, I recognized her.
This girl — she was the same one we’d seen in the video Alicia showed me at the beginning.
The one who had been saved in that footage.
