Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 42

Chapter 42: The School Camping Trip Begins (3)

The story goes back to when I was still in middle school.

Back then, I had always thought of my [Water Magic] skill as nothing more than a way to conjure and manipulate water at the cost of MP.

But "water" isn't just one thing—there's scalding hot water, freezing cold water, saltwater, freshwater, water of different colors, hard water, soft water… the variations are endless.

Until then, I had unconsciously associated "water" with pure, neutral water when using [Water Magic], but I began to wonder—could I intentionally create other types of water?

With that thought, I spent night after night experimenting in the bathroom.

After about a month, I finally succeeded in generating everything from boiling water to ice-cold water.

At first, I was thrilled. But as time passed and I thought more calmly about it, a question arose:

Was this actually useful?

That bitter question echoed louder with each passing day, dulling the thrill of discovery into quiet frustration.

First, creating anything other than pure water required significantly more MP.

Second, I had to consciously think about what kind of water I wanted to generate, adding unnecessary mental strain compared to just summoning it reflexively.

And most importantly—what was I even going to do with this?

Boiling water might be handy for camping or emergencies, but the rest? I had no idea.

Disappointed by how little practical use it had, I stopped experimenting with [Water Magic] after that.

And so, my enthusiasm for expanding its applications faded…

◇◇◇

Just to be safe, I laid down a blue tarp in the middle of my room and conjured a grayish water orb with [Water Magic].

Focusing my MP into it, I reshaped the orb, molding it into the form of a cat.

"Haaah…"

The foundation was complete.

Now, all that was left was to adjust its temperature and create tiny ripples on its surface to mimic the texture of fur.

"...Got it."

I reached out to the water-formed cat. Despite being made of liquid, it didn’t collapse—instead, it settled into my arms, radiating a faint warmth.

"Meow."

The cat-like construct let out a watery purr, extending a translucent paw as if asking to be stroked.

"...Finally managed to create one in under five minutes."

Satisfied with the result and the reduced casting time, I dismissed the spell.

The cat vanished from my arms as if it had never existed.

Creating solid forms from fluid water.

The idea came from the one-eyed marionette monster the Nine-Tails' fragment had created.

According to Kuon, it was a kind of armor formed from spiritual energy.

At the time, I’d only thought, "Huh, so that’s possible?"

But later, I remembered something:

"Spiritual energy is like red blood cells—constantly flowing through the body."

If Kuon’s explanation was accurate, then the Nine-Tails had used fluid spiritual energy to create solid armor.

So… couldn’t I do the same with [Water Magic]?

If spiritual energy could form armor, then surely water—being just another fluid medium—could do the same.

With [Freezing Magic], creating objects was relatively easy, but ice was too rigid—limiting its applications.

[Water Magic], on the other hand, had far more flexibility.

With that in mind, I immediately tested it in the bathroom—and succeeded in creating a water orb that not only held its shape when touched but also felt almost like a glass bead.

Now, with my increased stats and MP pool, the cost was negligible.

Since then, I’d been experimenting with more complex creations, eventually reaching the point where I could make something almost indistinguishable from a real animal.

Items—especially animal replicas—created with [Water Magic] had proven surprisingly useful.

"『Status』."

The newly acquired skill, [Sensory Sharing].

This allowed me to share visual and auditory senses with a target—and when used on a water-created animal, it became an incredibly safe and detailed way to scout or track.

Plus, anything made with [Water Magic] wouldn’t disappear unless I dismissed it.

Right now, I mostly used it to keep an eye on Kana, but during the camping trip, it would be invaluable for investigating that cursed sword legend.

To make that happen, I needed to reduce the creation time and improve precision.

With that in mind, I resumed my research and training.

And so, one week later…

The day of the camping trip finally arrived.

Key Notes:

Water Magic Evolution: Osamu’s experiments have turned [Water Magic] from a basic utility skill into something with near-endless applications—especially for espionage.

Sensory Sharing: The combo of water constructs + sensory sharing is broken for reconnaissance. (And stalking. Mostly stalking.)

Nine-Tails’ Influence: The fox spirit’s techniques indirectly pushed Osamu’s magic to new heights—enemies make the best teachers.

Camping Trip Setup: The cursed sword investigation is about to get very hands-on.
