Tenma stirred awake, a dull pressure on his left arm and ribs pulling him from sleep. Groggily blinking, he glanced toward the edge of the bed—and immediately froze.

There it was: a contraption that looked almost exactly like a "Government-Issued Auto Wake-Up Machine"™ from his world.

Almost.

This one lacked the telltale hose attachment. So... probably a magic tool? Yeah, probably.

Still feeling the weight of sleep, Tenma dressed and headed downstairs. None of the "Orochi" members seemed to be up yet. He found an empty four-person table and took a seat, deciding to wait.

A waitress approached promptly.

“Would you like your breakfast served now, sir?”

Tenma shook his head lightly.

“I’m waiting for my companions. Please bring it once everyone’s here.”

“Of course, sir.”

She stepped away, just as Leaf plopped into the seat across from him.

“Good morning, Tenma. Alf and the others still upstairs?”

“Looks like it. By the way... you can really hold your liquor, huh?”

Leaf gave a little smirk.

“Comes with the job. When I first became an adventurer, I practically drank ale like water.”

She then explained that, oddly enough, a single water pouch used to cost five medium copper coins—while ale was cheaper at just three. Until she’d acquired a Water Pouch enchanted with magic, she’d just filled regular ones with ale instead.

“That explains a lot…”

“By the way, did you know how the party name 'Orochi' came about?”

“Not really. Has it been around long?”

“I guess? Technically, it became 'Orochi' after I joined—so, about five years now?”

She went on to say Alf and Mario used to work as a duo. Back then, Alf was already C-rank, and Mario was D-rank like her. On her very first day, they all went drinking together. The next morning, Mario suddenly blurted out:

“Let’s call ourselves Viper Raptors!”

Alf had immediately shot it down—too embarrassing, apparently—and they settled on “Orochi” instead.

“So Mario’s the one who named the party?” Tenma asked, intrigued.

“Yep. Alf probably hated the original idea because of this place.”

“This place?” Tenma echoed.

“You know—the inn. The one run by Alf’s uncle.”

“Who’s talking about me behind my back?”

A voice cut through their conversation like a whip. Alf had arrived. Tenma had seen him coming from the corner of his eye—but Leaf, caught up in her storytelling, had not. She jumped in surprise and nearly fell out of her chair.

“What’re you two whispering about?”

“I was just telling Tenma about the origin of the party name,” Leaf replied quickly, dodging the topic change like a pro. “Apparently, Mario named it.”

“Hah. That’s true. But hey, don’t blame us for being late—it’s not even 8 yet.”

“Fair enough,” Leaf muttered. “Anyway, let’s just eat.”

“Excuse me,” Mario called to the waitress. “Four breakfasts, please.”

“Right away, sir.”

Soon after, their breakfast was brought out—bread, a vegetable soup, fresh salad, a fried egg, and a plump sausage. The waitress mentioned bread refills were free before leaving them to it.

The group began eating without much chatter. Tenma followed suit, silently mouthing "itadakimasu" in his mind.

Just like last night, the food was delicious. The bread tasted just like what he’d eaten in Japan. Maybe they had a grain similar to wheat in this world? The soup was rich and flavorful, clearly simmered with care.

As he chewed, Tenma reflected: for a medieval-style fantasy world, the food here was surprisingly refined. He’d expected stale bread and gruel, not this.

And despite everything—the sudden teleportation, the unanswered questions, the uneasy future—this was the first time he truly thought:

Maybe coming to this world... wasn’t so bad after all.
